Watertown Boys & Girls Club Announces Youth of the Year Winner

Watertown Boys & Girls Club hosted their annual “Youth of the Year” event and selected Club member, Kat Nilov as their winner, who will move on to compete at the state-level. Youth of the Year, a national Boys & Girls Clubs initiative, is a recognition program that celebrates the incredible achievements of Club members ages 14-18. This year, four Watertown Club members were chosen as candidates based on their active participation and excellent character. Noah Brennan, Sajda Abbas, Kat Nilov, and Didar Jajan are all a constant presence at the Whites Avenue site, acting as positive role models for the Club’s youth members. Each candidate was asked to write a two-page essay sharing how the Club has impacted them and to prepare a brief speech.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Open With Extended Hours During February Break

Watertown Boys & Girls Club announced it will be open with extended hours for most of February Vacation Week! Monday, Feb. 20: CLOSED for Presidents’ Day

Tuesday to Friday, Feb. 21 to Feb. 24: OPEN 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Club will be open for drop-in programs Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Activities will include free swim, arts & crafts, gym games, games room tournaments, computer time, and more!

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Hosting Kids Night Out This Friday

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host another “Kids Night Out” event on Friday, February 10 from 7-10 p.m. Kids can be dropped off at the Club that night and enjoy a variety of activities! The night will include cookie decorating, free swim, nail painting, tattoos, popcorn & movie, pony hops and games! This event serves as a fundraiser for the Watertown Wavemakers swim team – all proceeds will help them cover the cost of traveling to St. Petersburg, Fla., for the National Boys & Girls Club Swim Meet this April. The event is open to children ages 6 to 12.

Stop & Shop Manager Thanked for Donating Kids’ Daily Snacks

Recently, Watertown Boys & Girls Club members received a visit from Steve Farley, the General Manager of Stop & Shop on Pleasant Street in Watertown, according to the Club. Members were very excited to see the man responsible for providing them with fresh fruit every day! Starting in September of this year, Steve worked to develop a partnership between his store and the Boys & Girls Club. When he reached out to see how his store could help the Club, Executive Director, Renee Gaudette, explained their need for healthy after-school snacks. Steve generously agreed to donate boxes of apples, bananas, and oranges to the Club on a weekly basis.

Visit Panera and Support the Watertown Boys & Girls Club

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club will join forces with Panera to raise money for the club. The club sent out the following announcement:

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Wins $5K in Honda Village Holiday Contest

Watertown Boys & Girls Club is excited to share that they are the proud winners of Honda Village’s Season of Giving Charity Contest! This social media-run contest featured ten local charities competing for the grand prize of $5,000. Voting took place throughout the month of December and the organization with the most votes by December 31 was named the winner. Watertown Boys & Girls Club posted diligently to Facebook, sent out mass email blasts, and posted signs around the Club encouraging their supporters to vote! The work paid off when on January 4, it was announced on Facebook that they were the first place winner and the recipient of $5,000.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Members Meet Santa at Annual Holiday Party

Watertown Boys & Girls Club hosted their annual Youth Member Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 21, the club announced. There was a great turnout with nearly 200 kids in attendance, as well as dozens of staff, volunteers, and community supporters. Members participated in various activities, including face painting, ornament decorating, and basketball games. They were then invited to visit with Santa, receive a gift, and eat some treats. The Club would like to thank food sponsors: Stop & Shop on Pleasant Street in Watertown, Dunkin’ Donuts on Concord Avenue in Cambridge, Cindi Galligan, and G.M. Walsh Plumbing & Heating, and gift sponsors: The Arsenal Project, Cambridge Savings Bank, Century 21 Commonwealth, Fit-Z’s Bar & Grill, John McElhenny, The Mews, Residence at Watertown Square, Residence Inn, and Tufts Health Plan.

Watertown Senior Home Donates More Than 50 Toys to Boys & Girls Club Members

The Residence at Watertown Square, owned at operated by LCB Senior Living, LLC held a toy drive for the Watertown Boys and Girls Club’s annual holiday party, the center announced. Owned and operated by LCB, the Residence at Watertown Square is located at 20 Summer Street in Watertown and offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care residences to seniors. Each year in December, the Watertown Boys and Girls Club holds a holiday party for children in the community, where toys donated from local residents and business are given as gifts to children from low-income families who attend the event. Laurie Gaines, one of the Sales and Marketing Directors at the Residence at Watertown Square, coordinated a toy drive to gather gifts for children who attend the holiday party. The toy drive was open to associates and residents at the Residence at Watertown Square, where over 50 toys and gifts were donated.
