Watertown Wavemakers Compete in National Boys & Girls Club Swim Meet

This past weekend, the Wavemakers, the swim team of Watertown Boys & Girls Club, traveled down to St. Petersburg, Florida to compete in the National Boys & Girls Clubs Swim Meet, the club announced. There, they swam as part of Team New England and were up against other regional Boys & Girls Club teams from across the country. Their hard work paid off when Team New England placed second overall out of a total of 16 teams. The Wavemakers have prepared tirelessly for Nationals, adding extra practices, increasing dryland work-outs, and motivating one another to go the extra step. The team also had ten members make it to Finals, a record-high number for the Wavemakers!

Monday, 4/17: CLOSED for Patriot’s Day

Tuesday, 4/18 to Friday, 4/21: OPEN 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for April Vacation

The Club will be open for drop-in programs Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Activities will include swimming, arts & crafts, sports, outdoor games, computer time, and more! Snacks of apples, bananas, and oranges are provided for free to all members.

Tickets on Sale for Watertown Boys & Girls Club Spring Auction

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host their Annual Spring Auction this year on Thursday, May 4 at 6 p.m. This yearly event raises crucial funds for the organization, including over $15,000 for summer camp scholarships. The event will be held at the Oakley Country Club and will include a silent and live auction, hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and a meet & greet with some Boys & Girls Club members! The meet & greet portion of the evening is a new addition this year and will serve as an opportunity for attendees to get a better understanding of what really happens at the Club day-to-day. “It is our hope that by facilitating this meet & greet, event attendees will feel more connected to our mission. It’s one thing to support the Club, but to see it in action and witness how it changes kids’ lives is a whole different story!” said Kristina Norris, WBGC Director of Marketing & Special Events

Registration Open for Watertown Boys & Girls Club Summer Camps

Registration for Watertown Boys & Girls Club’s Summer Adventure and Summer Swim Camp is now open! Summer Adventure is a camp program for children ages 7-12 (those older than age 12 should ask about the Junior Camp Leader option). The program offers youth a safe environment to build new skills, learn self-reliance, and become more confident all while having fun and being active in the great outdoors! Summer Adventure is held at Camp Hale Reservation in Westwood, MA. Summer Swim Camp is for boys and girls ages 6-12 and is held at Watertown Boys & Girls Club.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Announces Youth of the Year Winner

Watertown Boys & Girls Club hosted their annual “Youth of the Year” event and selected Club member, Kat Nilov as their winner, who will move on to compete at the state-level. Youth of the Year, a national Boys & Girls Clubs initiative, is a recognition program that celebrates the incredible achievements of Club members ages 14-18. This year, four Watertown Club members were chosen as candidates based on their active participation and excellent character. Noah Brennan, Sajda Abbas, Kat Nilov, and Didar Jajan are all a constant presence at the Whites Avenue site, acting as positive role models for the Club’s youth members. Each candidate was asked to write a two-page essay sharing how the Club has impacted them and to prepare a brief speech.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club announced it will be open with extended hours for most of February Vacation Week! Monday, Feb. 20: CLOSED for Presidents’ Day

Tuesday to Friday, Feb. 21 to Feb. 24: OPEN 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Club will be open for drop-in programs Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Activities will include free swim, arts & crafts, gym games, games room tournaments, computer time, and more!

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Hosting Kids Night Out This Friday

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host another “Kids Night Out” event on Friday, February 10 from 7-10 p.m. Kids can be dropped off at the Club that night and enjoy a variety of activities! The night will include cookie decorating, free swim, nail painting, tattoos, popcorn & movie, pony hops and games! This event serves as a fundraiser for the Watertown Wavemakers swim team – all proceeds will help them cover the cost of traveling to St. Petersburg, Fla., for the National Boys & Girls Club Swim Meet this April. The event is open to children ages 6 to 12.

Stop & Shop Manager Thanked for Donating Kids’ Daily Snacks

Recently, Watertown Boys & Girls Club members received a visit from Steve Farley, the General Manager of Stop & Shop on Pleasant Street in Watertown, according to the Club. Members were very excited to see the man responsible for providing them with fresh fruit every day! Starting in September of this year, Steve worked to develop a partnership between his store and the Boys & Girls Club. When he reached out to see how his store could help the Club, Executive Director, Renee Gaudette, explained their need for healthy after-school snacks. Steve generously agreed to donate boxes of apples, bananas, and oranges to the Club on a weekly basis.
