On Mothers Day, May 8, 2016 please join a group from Watertown and thousands of other walkers for the annual Mothers Day Walk for Peace. The walk will start in Fields Corner, Dorchester and end at Boston City Hall, a route of 6.8 miles, Watertown Walks for Peace announced.

You are invited to walk for all or part of the route. Buses will leave Watertown for Fields Corner at 7:15 am from the parking lot at the First Parish of Watertown, 35 Church St., Watertown. Opening remarks begin at Fields Corner at 8 a.m.; the walk begins at 8:30. If you would like to reserve a spot on the bus, email Mark Harris at minister@fpwatertown.org by May 1. The bus will drop off walkers at Fields Corner and pick them up at Boston City hall. For those wanting to walk a shorter distance, there is an entry/exit point about halfway at Madison Park High School. Start your walk there or exit Leg 1 and take the T to City Hall. The T stop for Madison Park High is Roxbury Crossing on the Orange Line.

The Walk is a fundraiser for the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. The Institute was created 20 years ago by the parents of Louis Brown, who was killed in Boston in 1993 on his way to an after-school Christmas Party for Teens against Gang Violence. Since its founding, the Institute has become a support to survivors of homicide victims and a model for peace education. It is a healing center, a training resource, and an educational resource for the City of Boston and surrounding communities. The Institute has earned a well deserved reputation as an innovative leader for peace.
