Three years ago Meghan Moran decided to open her own business and moved from Newbury Street to Watertown, where she transformed a motorcycle store into a hair salon.

Moran opened Alainn, 1 Louise St., and she said her business has been going strong since. She named it for the Gallic word for beautiful, in honor of her Irish heritage.

“My goal is for everyone to leave here feeling beautiful,” Moran said.

She cuts and colors hair, and also does some bridal services.

Moran had gotten the certificates for the salon in Newbury Street and ordered color for that salon and a day spa which where she worked in Florida. She decided to do the same thing in her own salon.

“I have (customers) in Newton, Belmont and Somerville, and because they all followed me here I didn’t have any problem,” Moran said.

The small storefront on the corner of Louise and North Beacon streets used to be a motorcycle parts store, but it it is hard to picture that now.

“It had bright orange walls and black and white checked tiles,” Moran said.

The only evidence of the former business is the checked floor in her storeroom.
