Three Raiders teams will play to go deep into their respective MIAA state tournaments on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The boys’ hockey team begins Tuesday with revenge on the players’ minds. Watertown faces Wayland, the squad that eliminated the Raiders in overtime last year in the same round – the section semifinals. The game will be at 5:10 p.m. at the Chelmsford Forum. A win gives them a birth in the Div. 3 North Section semifinals, back at the Chelmsford Forum on Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Bedford-Weston game.
On Wednesday, Watertown fans have a double header.
First the girls’ hockey team, which is combined with Belmont, takes on Austin Prep in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Div. 1 tournament at 6 p.m. at O’Brien Rink in Woburn. The Marauders (as the combined team is known) lost at this round last year. If they win, the girls will head to the semifinal on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Chelmsford Forum against the winner of Reading and Beverly/Danvers.
At 8 p.m. Wednesday, the girls’ basketball team takes on rival Belmont in the Div. 2 North Section semifinal at Mystic Valley’s gym, at 576 Eastern Ave. in Malden. The winner heads to the Tsongas Center in Lowell on Saturday (time to be announced) for the section final against either Pentucket or Arlington Catholic. Watertown reached the section final each of the last two years, falling to Arlington Catholic last year and Pentucket in 2013.
