Mary Mahoney, 104, of Watertown

A Funeral Mass for Mary Agnes (MacDonald) Mahoney, 104, will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16, 2015, in the Church of Saint Jude, Waltham. 

Mrs. Mahoney, a daughter of Boston Police Officer Daniel L. and Mary Ellen (Donovan) MacDonald, was born in Dorchester. The family moved to Watertown when she was a child, and Mrs. Mahoney graduated from Rosary Academy High School, Watertown. She was a retired Telephone Operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. (now Verizon) and a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She was a former volunteer at the thrift shop for the Marist Sisters of Waltham, a former volunteer at the Perkins School for the Blind, and a daily communicant at Saint Jude Church.

She has lived in Waltham and Wayland since her marriage to John Mahoney in 1946, and during the winter months spent time in Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood Beach and Clearwater,

Florida. She died at her Waltham residence on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, after a period of declining health.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Andrew Mahoney; devoted sister of the late Donald J., Sr. and the late Mary (Moran) MacDonald of Watertown and the late Joseph F. MacDonald of Waltham; loving aunt of Donald J., Jr. and Susan Kelley MacDonald of Watertown; dear great-aunt of Donald J., III and Akiko Kunii MacDonald, Althea M. MacDonald and Bernadette K. MacDonald, all of Watertown; and dear great-great aunt of Sarah K. MacDonald and Joseph K. MacDonald of Watertown. Also survived by her devoted caretaker Monica Smith.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, 270 Main St., Rte. 20, Watertown on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of Saint Jude, 147 Main St., Waltham. Interment will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Friday, May 15 from 4-6 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
