Watertown senior Derek DiPietrantonio scored 24 points in a win over Melrose.

The Watertown basketball team enjoyed a good week against two Middlesex League opponents.

The boys basketball team beat Melrose 53-43 on Tuesday to claim its third straight win. Senior Derek Diepietrantonio scored 24 points, and sophomore John Korte grabbed a double-double, according to the report on Wicked Local Watertown.

The Raiders winning streak ended Friday with a 58-49 loss at Wakefield. Watertown is now 4-5.

The girls team continues to pile up the wins. The Raiders beat Melrose 37-28 on Tuesday, lead by junior Shannon Murphy’s 11 points. On Friday, Watertown beat Wakefield 52-47.

The Raiders are the top of the Div. 2 North teams in the Boston Herald’s Super Six rankings. Watertown is now 9-1

Track Successes

Watertown’s track teams have been enjoying some success during the indoor season.

At the recent MSTCA Div. 4 Relays the boys “A” 4 x 400 team won with a time of 3:34.11. The girls “A” team finished third in the 4 x 800 relay with a time of 10:07.32.

The boys “A” 4 x 800 team took fifth at the meet at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.

At the MSTCA Freshman-Sophomore meet, the Watertown girls show they have some young talent.

Sophomore Emily Koufous ran the 1,000 in 3:07.09 to claim second place. In the 55-meter dash sophomore Christine Saroufim finished fifth with a time of 8.36.
