WHS Sports: 4 Raiders Teams in State Tournament Action Over the Weekend

This weekend,  Watertown High School had teams playing in the football, field hockey, boys soccer and volleyball state tournaments. 

Volleyball

The Watertown High School volleyball team cliched its first state tournament birth ever during the last regular season match. The Raiders (11-9) then had another first, claiming their first tourney win by sweeping host West Roxbury 3-0 last Thursday.

Watertown will travel to take on Middlesex League rival Burlington (18-3) on Monday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in the North Section Div. 2 quarterfinal.

Football

The Raiders football team (8-1) defeated Newburyport Friday night, 27-10 and will be back at Victory Field for the Div. 3 North Section final on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. against Triton (7-2).

Field Hockey

Watertown’s quest for an eighth straight state title got off to a good start with a 6-1 win over Weston on Friday at Victory Field. The Raiders (19-0) will play in the North Section Div. 2 semifinal against Triton (14-4-2) at Reading High School on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Soccer

The Raiders’ boys soccer team returned to the state tournament this year after one year away, but Watertown fell at home to North Reading , 2-1 in double overtime. The Raiders finish the year with a record of 9-8-2.
