Watertown’s Fred Grandinetti spoke about Popeye the Sailor at I AM Books in Boston recently. He will be at The Comic Stop for Free Comic Book Day.

Local writer, cartoonist and cable show host Fred M. Grandinetti, hosted a lecture on the history of Popeye at I AM Books on April 29, 2017. 

In Italy the sailor man is known as Braccio Di Ferro and appeared in hundreds of comic books produced specifically for the Italian marketplace. I AM Books has Italian comic books featuring Braccio Di Ferro and his crew available for purchase.

Grandinetti showed a special episode of his award winning cable access series Drawing With Fred.  The program featured Popeye cartoons in Italian. Nicola Orichuia, co-owner of I AM Books, became an animated cartoon character during the broadcast. In Italian he spoke about the importance of wearing a life jacket.

I AM Books is the first Italian-American book store in the country. The establishment is located at 189 North Street in Boston Massachusetts.

You can meet Grandinetti during Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 6 at The Comic Stop. The store, located at 134 Main St., Watertown, will give away free comics, have food, gaming, door prizes, artists, superheroes in costume and face painting from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Grandinetti will be doodling to raise money for Buddy Dog animal shelter and adoption center.
