Tufts Health Plan announced it received a perfect score on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Tufts Health Plan joins the ranks of 609 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.
“Diversity and inclusion are integral to our business, and by making it a part of the everyday employee experience and nurturing our employee-led programs, we see tremendous results,” said Lydia Greene, Tufts Health Plan senior vice president and chief human resources officer. “We are committed to developing an atmosphere and company culture that respects each employee as an individual. Receiving this distinction from the Human Rights campaigns reflects our company values and recognizes the work we do to promote an inclusive environment for all. We are deeply honored.”
The 2018 CEI rated 1,084 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Tufts Health Plan’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria resulted in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
In 2017, as part of its ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive environment, Tufts Health Plan launched Prism, a business resource group for LGBTQ employees and their allies. Prism exists to foster an equitable and inclusive working environment where LGBTQ employees and their allies, feel a sense of community, opportunity, and ability to be their authentic selves. Prism’s diversity contributes to the successful achievement of Tufts Health Plan’s mission and strategic priorities. Tufts Health Plan also introduced a program to help members regardless of sexual orientation or gender identify, working with community providers to enhance service and support for transgender members, at any stage of their journey. This integrated team, comprised of clinical and behavioral health teams as well as call center staff, has specialized training in transgender health issues and in cultural competency skills and a comprehensive understanding of available coverage options.
