Arlington-Watertown Girls Swimming Team Splits First Two Dual Meets

Now in its second year, the Arlington-Watertown Coop girls swimming team had a successful start to the season against Woburn, and then fell short against Belmont in the second meet of the year.

The team includes athletes from both Watertown and Arlington high schools. Watertown has only four swimmers on the squad, but they made some contributions.

Arlington-Watertown beat Woburn 87-83 on Sept. 7 in Woburn. In the meet, sophomore Niamh Murphy was on the first place 200 medley relay which finished in 2:07.89, and she also placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.79) and fourth in the 5o0 freestyle (6:57.37).

Sophomore Liana Rice and freshman Niv Krasnow both swam on the second place 200 free relay, which finished in 2:02.16. Freshman Theresa Cabral, Rice and Murphy were part of the third place 400 free relay (5:01.90).

Arlington swimmers freshman Sarah Peterson, freshman Isabelle Houseman and freshman Jillian Hinck won races against Woburn. Peterson won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. Houseman won the 500 free and got second in the 100 butterfly. Hinck won the 100 breaststroke.

On Sept. 14, Belmont defeated A-W, 86-79, in the dual meet. Murphy won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:26.82, and swam on the first place 400 free relay (4:12.45).

Krasnow was part of the second place 200 free relay. Arlington’s Houseman won the 500 free and 100 butterfly, and Peterson won the 100 backstroke.

The next meet is against Reading at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 5:30 p.m.
