The following information was provided by the West Suburban YMCA:

The West Suburban YMCA reopened its doors to members on July 6, following Governor Baker’s announcement last week regarding the state’s transition into Phase 3 of its reopening plan.

New protocols are in place to align with all guidance and recommendations outlined by the CDC, state, and local health departments. Some of the new practices include:

  • Brief health pre-screen at check in for all members and staff
  • Use of face coverings/masks when in the building
  • Social distancing and reduced capacity in all facility spaces
  • Frequent cleaning and sanitation of all equipment and surfaces
  • Single entry and exit points: Enter through the main doors and exit through the basement level trackside door
  • Reservations are required for pool use and outdoor group exercise classes

The reopening includes the Y’s Wellness Center (cardio, strength, weights, functioning training, and selectorized equipment), the indoor pools for lap swimming, the indoor and outdoor track, personal training, and a variety of group exercise classes offered both outside and virtually. Additional member services and programs are expected to become available gradually and in accordance with new information and guidelines.

Group locker rooms are unavailable until further notice. Five private changing rooms/showers are available, with full sanitation and disinfection in between each use. Members are asked to bring their own water bottle, towel, and mat. Water fountains will only be available for bottle filling and mats have been removed from the wellness center.

The West Suburban YMCA’s summer day camps – Camp Pikati at the Y and Camp Chickami in Wayland – are also open and accepting registrations.

The West Suburban YMCA will reopen in stages to ensure the safety of members and staff. In the initial stage of reopening, hours of operation are as follows: Monday – Friday, 5:30am – 8pm and Saturday, 7am – 4pm. The Y is currently only open to members; no guests or YMCA reciprocity use will be permitted at this time.
