Watertown’s winter overnight parking ban will be ending early, announced Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn.

The parking ban usually runs through the end of March, but in 2021 it will end on March 22.

The Town of Watertown sent out the following announcement:

Police Chief Michael Lawn would like to inform you that Watertown will lift enforcement of the all night parking ban effective Monday March 22, 2021 at 12:00 pm.

The Department of Public Works, Police Department and Fire Department would like to remind motorists that keeping the streets clear allows for road repairs, street cleaning and easy access for public safety vehicles. To that end, all Departments encourage residents to make full use of off-street parking when it is available.

  1. Another year that the cars return to 24/7 on street parking without the streets being cleaned first by our phantom street sweepers. I hear that one exists but it’s a myth. I have not seen one on the roads in many years now. Dirty streets and storm drains clogged with debris have always been a true sign of Spring in Watertown.

  2. The Police Chief has the job of keeping the streets clear of crime as much as possible. It is on the DPW to keep them clear of litter and debris. Early March is the time for that. Once the cars are back on the streets curbside overnight, that is nearly impossible to do throughout the year unless a street cleaning schedule is established. Many other cities and towns do exactly that. Waltham cleans their streets year round on alternating schedules. Watertown just has never done a good job cleaning up the side streets after the winter ends.
