Watertown Students Receive Awards at Minuteman High School Ceremony

Minuteman High School has announced the student recipients of annual scholarships and awards for the graduating Class of 2021. The awards recognize outstanding student achievement and support both college and career pursuits. A video of the award presentations is on youtube.com/minutemanhighschool.

Minuteman’s graduation ceremony will be held in-person at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Friday, June 4, at 2:00 PM.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian

The Class of 2021 Valedictorian is Hannah Bardei, an Engineering student from Arlington. Bardei is the Senior Class Treasurer and member of the National Honor Society. Bardei received the 2021 John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the Science Academic Achievement Award, Digital Federal Credit Union Scholarship, Nick’s Pick Award, Paul Alphen Science Award, and the Roger S. Eleftherakis Memorial Scholarship. Bardei will attend the University of Virginia to study biology.

The Salutatorian is Devlin Ih, a Robotics student from Carlisle. Ih received the Adams Scholarship, the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the Alan J. McLaughlin STEM Scholarship, the Music Academic Achievement Award, the World Language Academic Achievement Award, and the Digital Federal Credit Union Scholarship. Ih will attend Olin College of Engineering to study electrical and computer engineering.

Award Winners from Watertown

Zoha Bibi, a Health Assisting student from Watertown, received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement and the Friends of Minuteman Award. Bibi will attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to study dental hygiene. 

Samuel Cerqueira, a Horticulture student from Watertown, received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, the Sandra Lambrinos Memorial Scholarship, the Digital Federal Credit Union Award, the Ralph Hersey Memorial Award, the Horticulture Career Program Award, and the Andrea Martocchia Memorial Scholarship. Cerqueira will attend Plymouth State University to study environmental science. 

Dayane Coutinho, a Plumbing student from Watertown, received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement and the Friends of Minuteman Award.

Maria DeFreitas, an Early Education and Teaching student from Watertown, received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, the Digital Federal Credit Union Award, and the Andrea Martocchia Memorial Scholarship. DeFreitas will attend Lesley University to study political science. 

Izadora Karla Goncalves, a Health Assisting student from Watertown, received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the Friends of Minuteman Award, and the Health Assisting Career Program Award.   

Caitlin MacVeigh, a Design and Visual Communications student from Watertown, received the Digital Federal Credit Union Award, the Minuteman Parents Association Scholarship, and the Minuteman Alumni Association Award.   

Andrea Martocchia, a Plumbing student from Watertown, who passed away in 2020, will posthumously receive the Physical Education Department Award. The award recognizes an outstanding senior who has distinguished themselves in physical education. 

Autumn Sivits-Camara, an Early Education and Teaching student from Watertown, received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the Cambridge Savings Bank/Kevin J. Fitzgerald Award, and the Early Education and Teaching Career Program Award. Sivits-Camara will attend Post University to study early childhood education and continue working at The Goddard School of Lexington. 

Gabriel Tulipano, a Programming and Web Development student from Watertown, received the Digital Federal Credit Union Award and Friends of Minuteman Award.   

Nicholas Vick, a Plumbing student from Watertown, received the John F. Rezendes Memorial Award and the Minuteman Parents Association Scholarship.

  1. Dear Minuteman Graduates Class of 2021,

    Bravo to all of you! You have graduated from an absolutely amazing school. The energy I have witnessed in the classrooms is palpable. The curriculum is the perfect combo of practical and academic education. Wishing you all much success in your future endeavors.

    Hopefully Minuteman will be offering tours again as we come out of Covid. All I can say is – go see this school, meet the staff and faculty, and watch and listen to the students as they engage in their programs. Rest assured, the future is bright and positive in the very capable hands of these graduates.
