Watertown Helps Out starts soon and there are hundreds of ways to give back to the community. See more information in the announcement provided by the Watertown Community Foundation, below.
The Watertown Community Foundation, with the support of local company sponsors and the City of Watertown, is kicking off the 12th Annual Watertown Helps Out (WHO), a month of community service, taking place throughout the month of May.
This year’s corporate sponsors include ButcherBox and Enanta Pharmaceuticals, Arsenal Yards Life Sciences, C4 Therapeutics, Kymera Therapeutics and Watertown Savings Bank.
From May 2 through May 31, the Watertown Community Foundation invites residents, businesses, schools and neighborhoods to come together and volunteer to make a positive impact across the city.
Volunteers can choose from more than 400 opportunities to help local non-profits, beautify Watertown or help at City festivals. New opportunities will be added throughout May. This year, WHO will be capped off with a community food drive from May 26 – June 9, sponsored by ButcherBox and in partnership with the City of Watertown.
“Watertown Helps Out (WHO) came out of a desire to bring the community together after the Boston Marathon shootings in Watertown in 2013. Many of our first responders, neighbors and neighborhoods experienced trauma that day. The following spring the Watertown Community Foundation organized WHO to inspire residents to come out and support one another by volunteering and giving back to our community,” explained Lauren Coughlin Unsworth, Watertown Community Foundation Board Co-President.
Begun as a single day, growing to a week, and now lasting the entire month of May, Watertown Helps Out is a unique community event. For twelve years Watertown Helps Out has encouraged participants to take part in service projects large and small, demonstrating the power of private-public partnerships, collective action and community spirit.
“Watertown Helps Out comes from close collaboration between The Watertown Community Foundation, our local non-profits, our corporate sponsors, and the City of Watertown. Together, we identify community projects and connect company and community volunteers to projects where they can make a positive difference,” said Tia Tilson, Watertown Community Foundation Executive Director.

About The Watertown Community Foundation
The Watertown Community Foundation advances and supports positive change for the people who live and work in Watertown through the transformative power of community giving. We envision a welcoming community where people of all backgrounds can thrive, connect, and contribute to the strength and resilience of our city. Started with funds from the sale of the Watertown Arsenal property in 2003 and powered by generous donations from Watertown residents and businesses, the Foundation has awarded more than $3,000,000 in grants. We are committed to convening local stakeholders, creating cross-sector collaborations, and breaking down barriers to bring people together to turn philanthropy into action.
