The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Free Public Library:
On July 31 and August 1, tweens and teens ages 10 – 18 are invited to create custom cast aluminum art at the Watertown Free Public Library! This event is made possible by MassArt, Eutectic Arts, and the Massachusetts Libraries Board of Library Commissioners.
Here’s how it works: under the guidance of MassArt 3D Arts faculty and Eutectic Arts Founder Marjee-Anne Levine and current MassArt students, participants will carve their own design into a “scratch block” (a pre-formed mold made of resin-bonded sand) and watch as the design is cast in metal. Aluminum will be melted onsite on the Library lawn and poured into the scratch blocks created by each participant. Within minutes, the metal will solidify and be cooled and finished by the MassArt team. Each participant will walk away with their own custom cast aluminum art.
All participants must sign a waiver to participate. Anyone under the age of 18 must have their guardian or parent sign their waiver. These waivers will be emailed in advance to you upon registration, including waitlisted attendees.

This will be a popular event! If you are on the registration waitlist, you are welcome to come join us on the library’s front lawn to check out the process.
If you’re enthralled by the process of aluminum pouring and want to give it a try, there will be an opportunity to do so, following the careful instruction of MassArt students and faculty. To participate in aluminum pouring, you must register for the Saturday, August 1 workshop and come prepared to follow instructions wearing metal-casting appropriate attire.
