The following announcement was provided by Actors’ Shakespeare Project:
Prologue: A Season Kickoff Fundraiser to Support ASP’s Student Matinee Series will be held Tuesday, September 30, 6-9PM at the The Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of theater, community, and purpose as we rally to keep the magic of Shakespeare & classic works alive for Boston’s youth. “Prologue” will be a spirited fundraising celebration in support of ASP’s Student Matinee Series—a vital program that brings thousands of students into the world of live theater each year, many for the first or only time.
This season, a significant funding shortfall – caused by the loss of an NEA grant on which ASP has relied for over a decade – threatens to silence these powerful student performances. But together, we can ensure the show goes on for young people across the city.
Step into the story:
- Sip cocktails and enjoy Shakespeare-inspired hors d’oeuvres in an immersive atmosphere.
- Get a sneak peek at our Macbeth set and design.
- Mingle with ASP actors, directors, and local theater education champions.
- Hear first-hand from students and teachers whose lives have been transformed by our matinee program and youth programming.
- Take part in an exciting raffle & live auction.
- Experience a meaningful live performance from ASP professional actors and students that reaffirms why this work matters.
Why it matters:
For many young people, ASP’s matinees are their first—and sometimes only—exposure to live theater.
Experiencing live theater is crucial for students’ development, as it widens their view of the world around them; asks them to question or re-frame long-held assumptions; flexes creative muscles; and puts them in dialogue with each other, with the playwright, and with the story at hand.
These performances spark empathy, curiosity, and a lifelong relationship with the arts. With your support, we can continue making theater accessible, urgent, and alive for the next generation. Let’s raise the curtain on opportunity.
Come ready to play and give to help us keep our Student Matinees on the calendar next season!
