Assisted Living Facility in Historic Building Gets Improvements Under New Leaders

The Brigham House assisted living community is housed in Watertown’s former East Junior High School. Residents of the Brigham House assisted living community in Watertown live in a historic building, but the century-plus old facility has gotten some sprucing up recently. The credit for the improvements to the Brigham House goes to some people new to their positions at the community, which is run by HallKeen Management. Wendy Nollman took over as executive director at the Brigham House in early April. She has already left her mark, said Tabitha Jones, sales specialist at HallKeen.

Watertown Artists Invited to Learn About Online Networking Tool

Watertown artists are invited to learn about making connections, marketing themselves, and how to use the online database called Creative Ground. The virtual networking event will be presented by the Watertown Public Arts & Culture Committee and the Watertown Business Coalition. The session takes take place on Monday, July 18, from 7-8 p.m. on Zoom. Creative Ground 2.0 is a relaunch of an online database of New England artists and cultural organizations hosted by the New England Foundation for the Arts, said Watertown Public Arts & Culture Planner Liz Helfer. “It’s a wonderful tool for artists to be found for different opportunities across the region, and a way for organizations to find artists and other organizations to work with,” Helfer said.

The Charles River Chamber will host a free coffee networking event at Arsenal Yards in July. Make connections at the event at the River Green near Roche Bros. in Arsenal Yards. Also joining the event will be the Watertown Business Coalition. Members of both groups and non-members are welcome

Bookmobile Arrives at Watertown Library, See When it Will Debut

Watertown Free Public LIbraryThe new Watertown Library Bookmobile has arrived and will soon make its debut. The Watertown Free Public Library’s new bookmobile has arrived, and is charging up to get ready to make its debut in coming weeks. The vehicle will allow the Library to bring books to community events, go out into neighborhoods, and reach people outside of the library’s doors. The first event for the bookmobile will be the Watertown Arts Market on Aug. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. at Arsenal Park.

Watertown Upgrading Technology at Voting Sites for Next Election

Watertown voters will see some new technology when they vote in 2022. The City Clerk’s Office will use computer tablets which officials hope will streamline the check-in at the polls, and speed up the counting process. Last week, City Clerk Janet Murphy told the City Council about the poll pads that will be used in Watertown. They replace the large paper voter list books that have been used at precincts in Watertown. She was asked if the poll pad comes on an Apple iPad tablet.

Police Log: Man Caught Wandering Around Construction Site, Juveniles Vandalize Signs in Parking Lot

June 23, 5:02 a.m.: A worker at a construction site on Arsenal Street spotted a man walking around inside the fence who did not appear to belong. Police were called and when they spoke to the man he said that he was fixing the fence. Officers confirmed that he did not work there, and there were numerous “no trespassing” signs. At first the man provided a false name and date of birth.

Drivers Can Now Park at Watertown Parking Meters Using Cellphone App

People parking at meters in the Watertown will have the option of using a cellphone app to pay. The City of Watertown announced it has started using the Passport parking app. “Drivers can now use their smartphones to pay for and manage parking sessions, as an alternative to coins and credit cards,” the City’s announcement said. “After downloading the free Passport parking application, users create an account with license plate number and credit card, then enter the zone number marked on the meter and nearby signage.” The minimum charge is $1, plus a 25 cent service fee, said Senior Transportation Planner Laura Wiener.
