WMS’s Kingian Nonviolence Program Expanding to More Watertown Schools

An effort to teach students and teachers about Dr. Martin Luther King’s nonviolence teachings that began four years ago at Watertown Middle School has now spread to all the Watertown Public Schools. Organizers hope that the program can get regular financial support to keep it going. Over the years, the Kingian Nonviolence teaching has spread from a small group of students at Watertown Middle School to include more teachers, Watertown Police officers and town residents. Now WMS offers a class focusing on the subject, and students from the middle school have sought to spread it to the other schools in town.

The Watertown Mall’s giving tree is filled with ornaments for this Holiday season and will benefit the Watertown Boys & Girls Club. The Giving Tree is located in the common area of the mall, near Miss Maria’s School of Dance. If you would like to make a child’s holiday wish come true, simply take an ornament off the tree, buy the gift listed on the tag, and return it to mall staff unwrapped (Management Team, Maintenance Staff, Security Officers). Two Watertown Athletes Sign Letters to Play Field Hockey in College

Watertown Field Hockey players Aurise Tattrie (left) and Ally Kennedy signed to play in college. Tattrie will play at UMass Lowell and Kennedy at Vermont. Two Watertown High School seniors, Ally Kennedy and Aurise Tattrie, will continue their field hockey careers when they head to college next fall. Monday afternoon, the pair officially signed letters committing their choice of colleges — Vermont for Kennedy and UMass Lowell for Tattrie — in a ceremony held in the Watertown High School Gym. Kennedy verbally committed to play for the Catamounts after her sophomore year.

Major Intersection on Arsenal St. Undergoing Repaving

The area of Arsenal Street near School Street will be repaved beginning this week. The project, which is being overseen by Athenahealth. is slated to begin with milling (scraping off the top layer of asphalt) on Nov. 19, weather permitting. The work on Arsenal Street goes from School Street to the entrance to the recently built West Garage in the Arsenal on the Charles.

WHS Sports: Football Team on a Winning Streak, Cross Country Wraps Up Season

Watertown senior quarterback Brennan Cook has had multiple touchdown passes in the past two wins for the Raiders. The Watertown High School football team may have missed the tournament, but the Raiders have found their winning ways. The team heads into the Belmont game on a three game winning streak and with a chance to finish with a winning record. On Friday, Watertown traveled to Weston and won handily, 31-7. Four Raiders scored touchdowns in the victory.

Watertown Sisters Compete in NCAA Field Hockey Tourney, Two More WHS Grads Played in Div. 3 Tourney

Sisters Kourtney (left) and Jonna Kennedy will both be playing in the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament Sunday. Kourtney plays for UConn and Jonna for Boston College. Sisters Kourtney and Jonna Kennedy will each be competing in the second round of the NCAA Div. I Field Hockey Tournament Sunday, as their teams seek a berth in the Final Four. Kourtney Kennedy, a junior defender with UConn, will be playing against Princeton in Storrs, Conn., at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Police Log: Driver Falls Asleep at Wheel & Arrested on OUI, Vehicle Stolen from Parking Spot

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

Nov. 5, 4:57 p.m.: Police received a report of a man acting suspiciously in a vehicle parked in the Wells Avenue municipal parking lot. When officers spoke to the man they found he was wanted on a warrant. The 67-year-old Waltham man was arrested on the warrant from Cambridge District Court for making annoying phone calls.
