Introducing Watertown’s New Police Dog, Kato

Watertown’s new Police K-9 Kato. The newest member of the Watertown Police Department has four legs, fur, and is just 11 months old. His name is Kato, and he’s the first K-9 on the force since the 1990s. The German Shepard puppy and his handler, officer Andrew Civetti will be trained at the Boston Police Training Academy in Jamaica Plain over the coming months. Kato will protect Civetti and other officers, and search for missing people, suspects and drug drugs, Civetti told Watertown Cable Access’ Watertown Weekly News.

March 18, 10:23 p.m.: Target security caught two people taking items out of the store without paying. Two men were seen concealing numerous cosmetics items, as well as a four pack of Sutter Home wine. They attempted to leave through the store’s mall exit without paying. They were stopped and security found one man had cosmetics worth $31.53.

Watertown Track Coach, Teacher Retires After 47 Years

Watertown cross country runners senior pose with Longtime Watertown High School track and cross country Coach Tom Wittenhagen retired in March after 47 years in the district. Tom Wittenhagen reached the finish line of his coaching career in March, after coaching and teaching for 47 years in the Watertown Public Schools. The longtime boys track and field coach hung up his stopwatch after serving as head coach for the Raiders indoor and outdoor track, and cross country for the last 12 years

“I had 47 years teaching and coaching,” Wittenhagen said. “I was in and out of Watertown about 9,000 times over that time.”

Arsenal Yards Asking Town for Additional Liquor Licenses

Arsenal Yards will transform the old Arsenal Mall into a retail, residential and office complex. It will include several restaurants and developers have requested additional liquor licenses from the Town of Watertown. The developers of the Arsenal Mall redevelopment have requested additional liquor licenses for tenants of the new Arsenal Yards. Town Council President Mark Sideris told the Town Council about the request at Tuesday’s meeting. “I am bringing this up because I think that Arsenal Yards is going to transform the community,” Sideris said.
