Proposed Changes to Buses in Watertown, Fare Hikes Discussed at MBTA Meeting

Residents learned about proposed changes to MBTA service in and around Watertown on Monday night at the Watertown Police Station. MBTA officials visited Watertown Monday night to talk about changes to bus routes, increasing T fares and offering new ways for riders to pay fares. Those who attended the open house at the Watertown Police Station’s Community Room were eager to see ways the public transit system could be improved. Changing Routes

One of the biggest topics of interest was the MBTA’s proposals to change to routes in efforts to make them more efficient and reliable. Among the routes that are part of the Better Bus Project are the 70/70A and the express buses that come and go from Watertown Yard.

Watertown Youth Coalition Holding Town Hall, Performing with Improbable Players

The Watertown Youth Coalition will host a Town Hall Meeting to present the results of the Well Being of Watertown Youth survey, and a theatrical presentation. Along with the presentation of the survey results of the Watertown Youth Coalition Peer Leaders will make their theatrical debut with the Improbable Players. The event will be on Wednesday, March 20, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main St., Watertown. To register go to http://bit.ly/wyctownhall. Developer Redesigning Controversial Garage

The developer of a home on the Southside of Watertown which had upset neighbors has changed directions and torn down a controversial garage. Neighbors appealed to Town Officials in January after a two-story garage went up about five feet from the rear property line. Construction stopped and recently the developer met with residents to come up with a new plan. Assistant Town Manager Steve Magoon said the owner of the property, Brian Connaughton, agreed to pull down the parts of the garage that had gone up and replace it with a shorter structure. “It will still be a garage, but it won’t go nearly as high,” Magoon said.

Two Watertown Track Athletes Among New England’s Best

Watertown senior Mange Camara won the 300 meters at the New England Indoor Championships. Two Watertown High School students showed they are among the top track and field athletes in region with top five finishes at the New England Indoor Championships, including a first place finish. On Saturday, WHS senior Mange Camara competed in two events — the 55 dash and the 300 meters at the meet held at Boston’s Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, and senior Abbi Peterson took on the best high jumpers from around New England. Camara took first place in the 300 meters, with a time of 34.47 — which was 0.4 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Trio Performing in Watertown for Tremedal Concerts

Kallet, Epstein and Cicone will perform on March 9 in Watertown. The trio of Cindy Kallet, Ellen Epstein and Michael Cicone will perform in Watertown in the latest Tremedal Concert. The concert will be at the First Parish Church, 35 Church St. in Watertown on Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m. Tickets have sold out. Organizers of the concert describe the group as:

Snow Day for Watertown Public Schools on Monday

Watertown officials announced that the town’s Public Schools will be closed on Monday, March 4 due to the snow storm hitting the area. The storm is forecast to drop several inches of snow on area. Watertown officials announced the closing, among other places, on its Twitter account on Sunday night

One of Watertown’s Eating Hot Spots Has Closed

Watertown’s La Casa de Pedro restaurant announced it has closed in a message posted on Facebook Sunday morning. The restaurant has been serving Caribbean food in town for a quarter century, first on Main Street and then in the Arsenal on the Charles. The statement released Sunday seems to leave open the chance of Pedros opening again in the future. Twenty five years ago, we started a wonderful and fulfilling life adventure. Watertown Boys Hockey, Dracut/Tyngsboro Fight to the Final Buzzer in the North Quarterfinal
