Proposed Changes to Elementary School Project Worry Neighbors, Committee

The plan for Cunniff School would not have space for a tee ball field, after the building is moved left to provide more outdoor space along the right side. The School Building Committee discussed the plans on April 4. Architects presented proposed changes for the new buildings at the Cunniff and Hosmer schools, which left some concerns, particularly with the outdoor space at Cunniff. Watertown Track Athlete Named to All-Scholastic Teams

Watertown senior Mange Camara made the Boston Globe’s and Boston Herald’s All-Scholastic indoor track teams.

Boston’s major newspapers named Watertown High School runner Mange Camara to their All-Scholastic teams.

Camara completed one of the most historic indoor track seasons for a WHS athlete by taking fifth place at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 400 meters and being named an All-American. The Boston Globe writeup, stated, “Camara completely owned the 300-meter dash this season.” The senior went undefeated in the event this year, winning — among other competitions — the New England Championships, the All-State Meet and the Div. 5 Meet. He set the school record, the All-State meet record, and posted the second fastest time in the nation for a high schooler in the event 300, finishing in 34.22 seconds.

Watertown Library Turned Into Glamorous Venue for 150th Anniversary Gala

Guests at the Watertown Free Public LIbrary’s 150th Anniversary Gala entered through a building decked out for a celebration. The normally subdued Watertown Free Public Library was transformed into a glittering, glamorous party venue on Saturday night in celebration of its 150th Anniversary. Several hundred people filled the library for the 150th anniversary Gala Celebration. Strings of lights were draped in the entryway to the library, and vases full of flowers decorated tables around the library. Several hundred people filled the Watertown Library for the 150th celebration.

Watertown Home to First Kangaroo Express in New England

The convenience store at Watertown Shell is New England’s first Kangaroo Express. A small gas station store on Arsenal Street has been turned into New England’s first Kangaroo Express location. The convenience store is part of the Watertown Shell gas station, at the intersection of Arsenal and School streets. Owners Paul and Alberta Zoummar took over the gas station in 2017, and last summer it was rebranded as a Shell station. They wanted to do something more with the store on the property, and were able to get a franchise with the brand in the Circle K group, Alberta said.

Police Log: Valuable Coins Stolen, Man Faces Charges for Incident Involving “Gun”

March 25, 8:52 a.m.: Police received a call from the senior housing complex on Warren Street about items being taken from its community room and library. Missing were a cable box and remote, eight CDs, and some snacks. The suspect also attempted to break into a locked closet. Police reviewed the security footage and recognized the woman who took the items. An officer on patrol spotted the suspect on Main Street.

Family Faces Charges for String of Thefts from Watertown Store

Watertown Police arrested a man and woman, and one of their children after they were caught trying to take three carts full of merchandise from Target. They discovered it was not their first time doing so. On March 26 at 10 p.m., officers responded to Target after security had detained four people for allegedly shoplifting numerous items, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. The couple, a 47-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, were caught along with their two children, ages 14 and 10. “Target security observed three individuals push two shopping carts full of merchandise out of the store with out paying,” O’Connor said.
