Police Chief Expects Suspect in Area Break-ins to be Charged with More Crimes Watertown

The suspect arrested for a string of home break-ins around the Boston area was charged with one offense in Watertown, but Police Chief Michael Lawn said he expects the suspect to be charged in connection with more of the recent burglaries. The most recent string of break-ins in Watertown took place on Feb. 1, 2019, but dozens of break-ins have occurred in town. During three of the most recent burglaries, residents were there when their homes were broken into. “Since the end of September we have had approximately 24 residential burglaries and home breaks in town.

Snow Closings: Watertown Town Council Meeting Cancelled and More

With heavy snow fall expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, some cancellations and closings have been announced in Watertown. Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting has been cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7:15 p.m. All items on the agenda will be heard Thursday, including three requests for cell antennas around Watertown. Also cancelled is the Watertown Public School’s Budget and Finance Subcommittee Meeting, which had been scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The Watertown Public Schools also announced there will be no after school or evening activities on Tuesday.

Boston Man Arrested for Breaking Into Homes in Watertown, Other Communities

Police arrested a Boston man suspected of breaking into 19 homes over the past five months in five communities, including Watertown. Jargle Soto-Suazo, 33, of Boston, was apprehended following an alleged break-in that occurred in Brookline on Thursday, Feb. 7, according to the announcement from Middlesex District Attorney Marina Ryan’s office. DA Ryan, Watertown Chief of Police Michael Lawn, Medford Chief of Police Jack Buckley, Brookline Chief of Police Andrew Lipson, Quincy Chief of Police Paul Keenan and Acting Arlington Chief of Police Julie Flaherty announced that Soto-Suazo is believed to be responsible for the uptick in housebreaks in the communities of Watertown, Medford, Brookline, Quincy and Arlington. 

Police departments across Middlesex and Norfolk Counties have been investigating the reported crimes since September 2018. The statement read:

As part of the ongoing joint investigation into the alleged burglaries, police from multiple departments located the defendant displaying suspicious behavior in the area of Colbourne Street in Brookline.

Watertown Fire Chief Awards Fire, Police Personnel for Saving a Life

Members of the Watertown Fire Department, Police Department and emergency dispatchers received awards on Friday for the work they did helping to save a man from choking. Watertown Fire Chief Bob Quinn announced the awards during a ceremony where the Fire Department also swore in new firefighters and officially promoted two others. On the evening of Dec. 7, 2018, a call came in for a man with an obstructed airway at Conley’s Pub & Grill on Belmont Street. “Upon arrival, Engine 2 encountered a very crowded restaurant and was able to make contact with the male patient,” Quinn said.

Watertown Fire Department Honors Promoted & New Firefighters

Ryan Nicholson receives his badge from his wife after he was sworn in as Deputy Fire Chief as Fire Chief Bob Quinn watches. The Watertown Fire Department celebrated the promotion of two of its members, including the newest deputy fire chief, and welcomed four new firefighters at a recent ceremony. The promotions and swearings in took place at the Watertown Free Public Library on Friday afternoon. Fire Chief Robert Quinn announced the promotions and welcomed the new firefighters. All were sworn in by Town Clerk John Flynn.

Winter Storm Could Make for a Messy Tuesday Afternoon & Commute

Snow will hit the Watertown area Tuesday afternoon and could make for a messy evening commute. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 2 p.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Wednesday. The precipitation will begin as snow and turn to sleet and then freezing rain. Forecasters at WBZ Channel 4 say that the area could get 3 to 6 inches of snow during the storm. Ice is possible Tuesday night, especially north and west of Rte.

Police Log: Officers Chase Down Shoplifter, Property Tax Checks Stolen & More

Jan. 28, 6:22 p.m.: Police received a report of two people shoplifting at Home Depot. The pair had been seen in the power tool section taking items, and when officers arrived a man and a woman were running away through the parking lot. Police caught the woman at the intersection of Arsenal Street and Greenough Boulevard, but the man got away.
