Watertown Families Together and Church of the Good Shepherd invites the public to Share the JOY of the Season. Photos with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 10, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.:

Outside from 10:30 to 11:00 (for those who have worries about viruses)

THEN

Santa will move inside from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Church of the Good Shepherd (corner of Russell Avenue and Mt. Auburn Street – Watertown)

Children can pick up easy keepsake craft kits (complete with supplies and directions) to make gifts for those they love during the holiday season.

A Christmas Journey concert takes place on Sunday, December 18, 4 PM, at Taxiarchae / Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue in Watertown. Hosted by the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church Choir with Director Cynthia Mitaras Alex, Guest Director Monty Hill, Director and Accompanist Sophia Argeros, and Accompanist Jim Speros. Watertown Community Foundation Introduces New Executive Director

The Board of Directors of Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) proudly announces the appointment of Athelia A. Tilson (Tia) as its next Executive Director. Tia is a seasoned, strategic leader, community activist, and fundraiser with over 20 years’ experience identifying and developing partnerships to strengthen non-profits, and deep work in the city’s community organizations.  

Tia has managed significant development efforts for major health, scientific, educational, and human services organizations, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Ariadne Labs, Pathfinder International, MIT, The Home for Little Wanderers, and the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review. “Tia brings extraordinary knowledge and understanding of how life sciences and research entities can collaborate with community partners to create opportunities for both to thrive, and we are thrilled she will be our next Executive Director,” said David Siegel, former WCF Co-President who chaired the Search Committee. 

Tia will formally join WCF in her new role on Jan. 2, 2023.

Revels is back in Sanders Theatre for its 52nd annual December production, Midwinter Revels: A Solstice Celebration – Tales from Ellis Island, which explores the unique dynamics between Irish, Jewish, and Mexican cultures at 1920s Ellis Island. One of Greater Boston’s most cherished holiday productions, Midwinter Revels’ multi-generational cast joyously brings traditions to life through music, dance, and song. Midwinter Revels: A Solstice Celebration takes place on Christmas Eve in the 1920s on Ellis Island, where a delay in processing requires new arrivals from Ireland and Jewish immigrants from Russia and Germany to spend an extended period of time together. Inspired by their children and by the Mexican nurses in charge of their care, the families slowly transcend their differences and build a rapport through music, dance and puppetry.

Small Saves Gets a Lesson in This Week’s Cartoon

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

LETTER: Former Councilor’s Shares Letter on Development from 2016

In response to recent projects being approved and proposed in Watertown, former District A Councilor Angeline Kounelis sent out a letter she submitted to Planning Board and City Officials in December 2016 regarding the property at 485-615 Arsenal St. (Arsenal Yards) and the Master Plan Special Permit.
