Watertown Library Welcomes New Trustee, Emily Izzo

A panorama of the Watertown Free Public Library. The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Free Public Library:

On February 19, the Watertown Free Public Library Trustees and Town Council President Mark Sideris selected Emily Izzo to fill the open seat on the Library Board of Trustees. She will serve until the next election in November, 2021. A Watertown resident, Izzo works as a municipal finance law attorney with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. She is looking forward to the opportunity to expand the impact and shape the future of Watertown’s well-loved public library.

Two Watertown Students Make Dean’s List at UMaine

The following information was provided by the University of Maine:

The University of Maine recognized 2,572 students for achieving Dean’s List honors in the fall 2019 semester. Of the students who made the Dean’s List, 1,754 are from Maine, 743 are from 30 other states and 75 are from 31 countries other than the U.S.

Listed below are students who received Dean’s List honors for fall 2019, completing 12 or more credit hours in the semester and earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Please note that some students have requested that their information not be released; therefore, their names are not included. Students from Watertown are: Yonas Butler and Sarah Tymm

Watertown Democrat Jumps into Race for State Representative

Democratic activist and Democratic State Committee member Steve Owens is running for the State Representative seat that Jon Hecht will be leaving. Longtime Democratic activist and Democratic State Committee member Steve Owens announced his candidacy for the 29th Middlesex State House seat representing parts of Cambridge and Watertown.  The primary election will be held on September 1, 2020.   

Owens combines deep experience in his core issues of transportation, climate, and housing with years of dedication to community activism. “I have spent the past 15 years bringing people together to create positive change,” says Owens. “As State Representative, I will work to make Massachusetts a place where we can afford our homes, commute sustainably, reduce our carbon footprint, and raise healthy families.”

With nearly two decades of professional experience as a transportation management consultant, Owens is committed to tackling Massachusetts’ transportation breakdown.  “Our roads are choked,” says Owens. “The MBTA and the commuter rail are not stepping up to the challenge.

Our 9th Annual Watertown MusicFest promises to be a great community event with over 50 performances – by Watertown’s youngest musicians to professionals – on three “stages!” We also feature an instrument “Petting Zoo” and refreshments! Friends of Watertown Music invites all musicians to perform! We welcome solos, duos, and ensembles at all levels.

Watertown Challenger Baseball Seeks “Buddies” to Help Athletes
