Watertown Dems Electing Delegates, Hosting Author Talk

Registered Democrats in Watertown will be holding a caucus at the Watertown Savings Bank Room of the Watertown Free Public Library on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. to elect 25 delegates and five alternates to the 2019 Massachusetts Democratic Convention. This year’s state convention will be held Sept. 14 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, where thousands of Democrats from across the state will come together to discuss Party business and celebrate our successes as we prepare for upcoming elections. “This year’s convention will be unique as we look to strengthen the party for 2020 and the future. The Watertown caucus is a great opportunity for people who want to get involved in the process,” said Watertown Democratic Town Committee Chair Steve Owens.

Mass. Pike Exit 17 to be Closed for Walk for Hunger

The following information was provided by MassDOT:

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the I-90 westbound Exit 17 off-ramp in Newton will be closed to all vehicular traffic on Sunday, May 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This temporary off-ramp closure is necessary to facilitate the annual Walk for Hunger. MassDOT encourages the public to be mindful of this traffic impact. Those traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution. Hear About How Revolutionary War Started at Historical Society Annual Meeting

The Historical Society of Watertown invites the public to its annual meeting, where a special presentation will be made about the beginnings of the Revolutionary War. The following information was provided by the Historical Society of Watertown:

The Historical Society of Watertown’s 2019 Annual Meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed at 7:15 p.m. by author J.L. Bell’s slideshow presentation on “The Road to Concord: How Four Stolen Cannon Ignited the Revolutionary War.”

It will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at the Watertown Free Public Library in the Watertown Savings Bank Room, 123 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Copies of Mr. Bell’s book will be available for purchase. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Historical Society of Watertown.

Find Out About Vaping at Event Hosted by Watertown Public Schools

Find out about vaping at an event hosted by the Watertown Public Schools with help from the Watertown Youth Coalition (WYC). WYC sent out the following information:

The Watertown Public Schools will be hosting a community event at the middle school on Monday, May 13 (6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). Our speaker will be Traci Wojceichowski, who is the Regional Director of Education at Caron Treatment Centers. Traci has recently presented on this topic at a Middlesex Partnership for Youth event. She has also spoken at numerous schools and community events.

Watertown Teens Attend Tobacco Prevention Event at State House

Members of the Watertown Youth Coalition joined teens from around the state at the State House for a tobacco prevention event. Young people from Watertown Youth Coalition Peer Leaders, from Wayside Multi-Service Center, celebrated Kick Butts Day, an annual youth tobacco prevention event, at the Massachusetts State House on April 3, 2019. 

As part of The 84 Movement, Massachusetts youth attended a youth-led rally, marched across the Boston Common to the State House and talked with their lawmakers to express their concerns about the influence of the tobacco and vaping industries in their communities.  They emphasized the dangers of vaping and how sweet flavors like menthol and mint attract youth to vaping.

OBIT: Grace Julian, 89, Taught CCD, Worked at Star/Shaw’s Over 50 Years

A Funeral Mass for Grace Teresa (Bottari) Juliano will be celebraated on Friday May 3, 2019 at 9:00 a.m., in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown. A daughter of the late Felice Bottari and Pauline (Cicclo) Bottari, Grace passed away Sunday morning. She was 89. Marie was born and raised in Cambridge and graduating from Cambridge High & Latin class of 1948. She moved to Watertown in 1958 with her husband Joseph Vincent Juliano.

Groups Can Register to be in Watertown’s Memorial Day Parade

Watertown Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts marched in the Memorial Day Parade. Watertown’s Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 27, 2019, and groups can now register to participate in the annual event. The Town of Watertown provided the following information:

Fill out the attached registration form and return it marked ‘Memorial Day Parade Registration’ to: The Town of Watertown, Veteran’s Services, 149 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or email: townmgr@watertown-ma.gov

Parade registrations are due no later than May 20, 2019. The parade begins at noon, but check in starts at 10:30 a.m. near the Tufts Health Plan garage on Grove Street.
