OBIT: Richard Marcus, 71, Led Progressive Watertown Group

The following information was provided by Giragosian Funeral Home:

Richard Marcus, age 71, of Watertown passed away suddenly on April 24, 2019. Survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary (Ovoian) Marcus, and his children Jessica Marcus and partner Jim Ankrom, Henry, Seth, and Amanda Marcus and husband Alasdair Post-Quinn. Dedicated brother of George Marcus and the late Stephen Marcus; cherished brother-in-law of Lois Cooper and Ellen Schön.   

Richard is also survived by his many cousins, friends, and two generations of loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at The Armenian Cultural and Education Center (ACEC), 47 Nichols Ave., Watertown on Saturday, May 4th at 2pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Get a Massage and Help Doctors Without Borders in Yemen

The following announcement came from the event organizers:

It started with a desire to help the people of Yemen who according tothe United Nations, are currently enduring the worst humanitariancrisis on the planet.  From there it grew into a collaborative effortrevealing the true kindness and common humanity of the people ofWatertown. Six local massage therapists and Reiki practitioners have come together to donate their therapeutic skills to host a fundraiser called MASSAGE AID FOR YEMEN with all the proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders earmarked for Yemen. The First Parish Church of Watertown has graciously donated the space.  Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice & the Environment, World In Watertown and The Survival Education Fund, Inc.  are co-sponsoring the event and helping to advertise it through their newsletters, social medial accounts and at their events. Many local small businesses, churches and non-profits have enthusiastically agreed to post fliers for the event in their windows or on their community bulletin boards and Trader Joe’s in Allston has generously offered to donate food for the event. There are many heartwarming stories about the response this event isgenerating throughout Watertown.

Free Bike Helmets Being Given Out at Little League Opening Day

Watertown’s Little League baseball and softball teams line the diamond at Casey Park on opening day. The following information was provided by the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee:

As part of its Project KidSafe campaign, the Boston personal injury law firm of Breakstone, White & Gluck recently donated 100 children’s bicycle helmets to the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee. The helmets were given away to children at Watertown Little League Opening Day, April 27, 2019. Since 2013, Breakstone, White & Gluck and its Project KidSafe campaign have given away more than 25,000 bicycle helmets to children across Massachusetts. To reach children who need a helmet, Breakstone, White & Gluck has partnered with more than 40 organizations, police departments and bicycle committees.
