Memorial Planned for Longtime Watertown Resident, Ann Bloom

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ann Bloom, a long time Watertown resident and former Library Trustee, will be held on Saturday, April 30. She passed away in January 2016. The service on April 30 will be held at at 1 p.m. at the First Parish of Watertown, Unitarian Universalist, 35 Church St. in Watertown. Refreshments following the service.

2 former students representing a much larger group came from NYC so that they could ask to place a plaque in the Middle School (to be chosen by WPS) honoring Mr. John R. Burns, a former Watertown Middle School teacher and principal, who passed away in October 2015.

Watertown Library Seeking Candidates to Fill Open Trustee Seat

The Watertown Free Public Library Board of Trustees is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Library Board. Under the Home Rule charter, the appointment will stand until the next Watertown municipal election, which will be held in November, 2017. Responsibilities of Library Trustee include the custody and management of the Library and reading rooms and all property of the Town devoted to Library purposes; policy setting and budget development. Meetings are held in the Trustees Room at the Library on a monthly basis (usually the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.), with the possibility of special meetings during the year. Any interested party who is a Watertown resident and registered voter in Watertown should submit a resume and a cover letter explaining why he or she is interested in serving on the Board of Library Trustees.

Mount Auburn Hospital Offering Free Workshop on Fall Prevention

Mount Auburn Hospital has a program for older adults concerned about having a fall. 
The hospital sent out the following announcement:

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. Mount Auburn Hospital recognizes this concern and has developed its award-winning program to help patients prevent and manage their falls, while staying or becoming more active. This spring, the hospital is pleased to present the A Matter of Balance workshop, an eight-week group focused on learning to view falls as controllable. Participants will set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and learn exercises to increase strength and balance. WHEN: Every Thursday for 8 weeks from April 27th – June 16th from 1-3 p.m.

OBIT: Richard ‘Dick’ Krueger, 84, Navy Vet, Member of AmVets, Eagles

A Funeral Home Service will be held in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home – Watertown on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10 a.m. for Richard L. “Dick” Krueger. Dick was a son of the late Herman & Mary (Holmes) Krueger. He passed away Monday morning in the Wayside Hospice, Wayland after a period of declining health. Dick was 84. Dick and Jean met in Boston while Dick was serving in the U.S. Navy. Dick was born in Edgerton, Wis.

Watertown Group Invites People to Join Them at Mothers Day Walk for Peace

On Mothers Day, May 8, 2016 please join a group from Watertown and thousands of other walkers for the annual Mothers Day Walk for Peace. The walk will start in Fields Corner, Dorchester and end at Boston City Hall, a route of 6.8 miles, Watertown Walks for Peace announced. You are invited to walk for all or part of the route. Buses will leave Watertown for Fields Corner at 7:15 am from the parking lot at the First Parish of Watertown, 35 Church St., Watertown. Opening remarks begin at Fields Corner at 8 a.m.; the walk begins at 8:30.
