Auditions for the Christmas Revels Coming to Watertown in May

The Revels seeks a diverse and talented volunteer chorus of adults and children to join our family for 17 performances of the Christmas Revels at Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre, Dec. 9-27, 2016, according to an announcement from the group. The tryouts will be held at Grace Vision Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St. in Watertown on May 15 and 16, from 4-6 p.m. for children and 7-9 p.m. for adults.

WZLX’s Karlson & McKenzie Show Coming to Clean Up Park in Watertown

The Karlson and McKenzie morning radio show will honor the One Boston Day by organizing “The Amazing Waste Challenge” in Watertown and challenges listeners to come out to take part. 

The WZLX radio show will participate in the clean-up effort at Arsenal Park in Watertown on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The public and local businesses are invited to meet the Karlson and McKenzie Show personalities and join them in picking up the trash that litters Arsenal Park. The Halfway Café will be providing a free lunch to all participants. In 2015, The Karlson and McKenzie Show and its listeners helped clean up Filippello Park in Watertown.

Fundraiser Planned for Man Facing Cancer Treatment, Rehabilitation

A fundraiser will be held for Kevin Beaton, whose father-in-law works for the Watertown Department of Public Works. 

On April 26, 2015, Kevin Beaton was unexpectedly hospitalized with serious complications from cancer treatments. Having already endured numerous surgeries, additional Chemotherapy treatments, and the loss of his vision, Kevin is still hospitalized and continues to fight every day to get well. Thankfully Kevin is improving but he has a long way to go and still faces many months of additional treatments and rehabilitation. A fundraiser will be held for Kevin at the Canadian American Club, 202 Arlington St., Watertown, on April 16, 2016 from 4 p.m. to midnight. Enjoy raffles, a cash bar, refreshments and entertainment.

Register Now for the Rec Department’s Camp Pequossette Summer Camp

The Watertown Recreation Department announced it is offering the Pequossette Summer Program to children who are entering grades 1 through 8 in the fall of 2016. The program consists of seven individual weeks from June 27 through August 12, 2016 at the Watertown Middle School at 68 Waverley Avenue in Watertown. The program will operate Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm, except for Monday, July 4th. We offer an early drop off from 7:30 am to 8:45 am and an extended day program from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The Middle School and Moxley Playground which includes a large field space, playground area, basketball court, tennis court and a multi-purpose court afford the Recreation Department the opportunity to offer a wide range of activities to entertain the children.

Watertown Groups Collecting Bikes for Program to Promote Social Change

A bicycle collection for Bikes Not Bombs will take place on Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Parish of Watertown, 35 Church Street, Watertown, rain or shine, organizers announced. All types and sizes of bikes will be accepted, as well as bike parts, accessories, tools, and cycling clothing. A voluntary donation of $5 per bike will help defray the cost of finding a new home for your bike. Bikes Not Bombs is a Jamaica Plain based non-profit organization that uses the bicycle as a vehicle for social change. It reclaims thousands of used bicycles each year, and creates local and global programs that provide skill development, jobs, and sustainable transportation for youth and adults, both locally and internationally.
