Watertown Cable Host Adds a Touch of Hollywood to His Show

The host of a local cable show added a dose of Hollywood to his upcoming shows when he hosted an actor who has been in dozens of shows, including The Walking Dead, CSI and Hawaii Five-0.

Last week, Fred Grandinetti sat in the kitchen of his Watertown home with Cuyle Carvin after the pair shot some scenes for Grandinetti’s Watertown Cable Access TV show, Drawing with Fred. They also stopped by The Comic Stop on Main Street to sign some comic books drawn by Grandinetti featuring Carvin. Carvin came up from Atlanta to be in the show. He moved there from Los Angeles because the number of shows and movies being made in Georgia has increased greatly and it improved his odds of getting parts. “They say you get one part out of 50 or 60 auditions,” Carvin said.

Host of CatholicTV Network Show Nominated for Boston/New England Emmy Award

The CatholicTV Network announced that Matt Weber, host of The Lens, has been nominated for a Boston/New England Emmy in the 41st Annual Boston/New England Emmy Awards. Weber shares this honor with his unique co-host for the nominated segment: his 8-month-old daughter, Rose. On his unconventional co-host, Weber said, “My wife and I were double booked that day for things we both had to do and our childcare fell through. So, instead of trying to figure out another last minute option or having one of us cancel our commitments, I just decided to incorporate Rose into my commitment — which was hosting a TV show. So, in writing the script, I made it about Rose, multitasking, and the wisdom of my darling daughter.

1958: to encourage musical excellence in a professional and supportive environment by providing the highest quality orchestra training and performance opportunities to qualified musicians, grades K-12, while making its programs
accessible to underserved communities through financial assistance and outreach. At its founding in 1958, BYSO was a single orchestra of 80 young players. Today, it is one of the country’s most highly regarded youth orchestra programs, an organization at the vanguard of music education that serves over 600 students each year. On April 29, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. at Symphony Hall in Boston, many of BYSO’s young musicians will have the opportunity to perform in a joint concert with choral students from Leipzig, Germany as part of an international exchange and in honor of BYSO’s 60th anniversary season.

Local Author’s Book Goes Back in Time to See What Watertown Square Looked Like

Watertown Square may have changed significantly over the past decade, but local author Cara Marcus found out how the area near the Charles River truly transformed from an industrial center centuries ago to the commercial downtown, while researching her book Watertown Square Through Time. The heart of Watertown Square, the grassy Delta, once was the site of a grist mill where farmers brought their grain to be ground. Where a parking lot for the MBTA sits on Galen Street used to be a soap factory in the later 1800s. The book goes back to the 1630s, Marcus said. She also stated she was most surprised by how industrial the area used to be was centuries ago.
