Singing Deli Worker Delights Russo’s Shoppers, Becomes an Internet Sensation

A Facebook video of a Russo’s deli worker singing Christmas songs has gone viral, and caught the attention of news outlets both locally and nationally. 

Gillie Assuncao began working at Russo’s just four months ago as a dishwasher but now works in the market’s deli area. The Brazilian native also has an amazing baritone voice. The store posted a video of Assuncao singing to customers over the weekend and it took off. It also caught the attention of media, both locally and nationally. He has been interviewed by news outlets, including Boston’s WBZ Channel 4 and the national ABC News.

Comedy for a Cure Fundraiser in Watertown Raising Money for Cancer Research

A night of comedy, raffles and more will be held in Watertown to raise money for cancer research. Comedy for a Cure will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Hibernian Hall, 151 Watertown St., Watertown. Matthew P. Brown will be hosting the comedy show featuring Carolyn Plummer and Artie Januario headlining. Along with the comedy, enjoy raffles, ice cream, light snacks and a cash bar from beginning at 6:30 p.m. The comedy show begins at 7:30 p.m. Raffle prizes include $500 tasting class from Total Wine, signed Red Sox memorabilia, Blue Man Group tickets, and many restaurant gift cards.

Two Folk Groups Featured at the Tremedal Holiday Concert in Watertown

The Tremedal Holiday Concert in Watertown features a twin bill of folk acts. Dean Steven and Lorraine & Bennett Hammond will perform at First Parish Church, 35 Church St. in Watertown, on Friday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. Also that evening, colorful, creative crafts from Central America which make for nice holiday gifts will be on sale. The Tremedal Concerts benefit the Watertown-El Salvador Sister City Project.

The guests for Episode 4 were Brita Zitin, the Watertown Library’s Digital Services Librarian, who talked about all the online resources available for businesses, business people, those looking to change careers and more. We also spoke with Liz Helfer, the coordinator of the Hatch Makerspace where people can learn skills and be creative. Hatch has a variety of machines to use such as sewing machines, 3-D printers and vinyl cutters. Episode 3 features Watertown Veterans Services Officer Mark Comeiro and Bree Harvey from the Mount Auburn Cemetery.
