Family Movie Night This Week Hosted by Watertown Police, Recreation Department

The Watertown Police and the Recreation Department will host the second Family Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 11. The moving will be the animated film Sing​. The event runs from 6:30-10 p.m.

The festivities will be held outside in the park at 552 Main St., behind the Police Station

6:30- 8:00 Games, Face Painting, Popcorn, Pizza and Refreshments

8:00 The Movie will begin! Please park in the front of the police station!

Kids Can Make Their Own Puppet, Hear a Story at the Watertown Mall

Take a break from the playground – cool off and create with the Watertown Family Network’s Puppet Pizzazz! The Watertown Mall invites you to come on down and let your imagination soar as you craft your own puppet to take home. There will be story time, surprises
and other puppet crafts. Children and their caregivers are invited to create and have fun at this FREE event, Wednesday, August 9 at 10 a.m.! All supplies will be provided.

A Concert, Corn Roasts and More at Gore Place in August

Gore Place is full of activities in August from concerts to corn roast to moonlight tours events. Gore Place sent out the following information:

CORN ROAST AT GORE PLACE

On three consecutive Fridays in August (August 11, 18, and 25), 5-7pm

You can enjoy delicious roasted corn and baked potatoes, freshly picked from local farms, and drink herb-infused lemonade in front of the farmer’s cottage at Gore Place. Along with your corn or baked potato, you can choose from a variety of toppings. This is a great way to enjoy local produce on an historic farm! PROGRAMS & TOURS

Meet the Artists From the Forever Young Picture Book Art Exhibition

The Mosesian Center for the Arts announced Forever Young: Picture Book Art Exhibition Artist Meet & Greet Series. Today’s picture book artists are some of the world’s most innovative visual artists – pushing boundaries with their use of both traditional and digital techniques. This juried exhibition, on view now through September 15, 2017, celebrates a broad array of styles and mediums that will captivate audiences of all ages. The public is invited to a series of Artists Meet & Greets that kick off August 3rd with readings, Artist Q&A, Gallery Tours, and more! “Picture books are a child’s introduction to a lifelong love of art” says Director of Exhibitions Kimberly Thompson Panay.

Thursday’s Summer Concert, Featuring Billy Joel Cover Band, Moved to Library

Tonight’s Summer Concert will be held in the Watertown Savings Bank Meeting Room at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main Street, the Town announced. Heart Attack Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack is a Billy Joel cover band paying tribute to one of the most successful solo artists of all time. Anchored by a professional dueling pianist and lifelong Billy Joel fan, the band’s dynamic live shows focus largely on Billy’s more rocking mid-70s to early-80s output and have been converting ‘too cool for school’ Billy Joel doubters one by one, while giving lifelong fans a chance to sing along with their favorites at the top of their lungs. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Mosesian Arts Hosts Exhibition of Children’s Picture Book Art

The Mosesian Center for the Arts announces Forever Young: Picture Book Art Exhibition on view now through September 15, 2017, the center announced. Today’s picture book artists are some of the world’s most innovative visual artists – pushing boundaries with their use of both traditional and digital techniques. This juried exhibition celebrates a broad array of styles and mediums that will captivate audiences of all ages. “Picture books are a child’s introduction to a lifelong love of art” says Director of Exhibitions Kimberly Thompson Panay. “We’re pleased to showcase works from more than 25 artists, from up-and-comers to well-known artists including Calef Brown, Jannie Ho, Leslie Patricelli, and more.”

The Exhibition juried in part by Nick Patton from the Picture Booking Podcast and Mela Bolinao of MB Artists also includes a Pop-up Picture Book Shop featuring books and prints of artwork on view.

Tonight’s Watertown Summer Concert Will be Moved to the Library

Tonight’s Summer Concert will be held in the Watertown Savings Bank Meeting Room at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main Street at 6:30 p.m., Town officials announced. Playing on Thursday, July 13 is Fellswater, a dynamic instrumental Celtic music ensemble playing a wide range of music from traditional to modern compositions, drawing from the music of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and Canada. Snow cones, popcorn and water will be served free of charge.

Free Whale Day Open House for Kids at the Watertown Mall

The Watertown Mall invites the public to celebrate Whale Day Open House at the mall on Friday, July 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.! Join instructors from the New England Aquarium at the Watertown Mall for Whale Day Open House! Using interactive exhibits, kids can learn about the intelligence and biology of many different marine mammals, as well as how researchers study them. Kids get the answers to all of their questions about marine mammals and get involved with the several different hands on activity stations. The program’s showstopper is a life-sized inflatable right whale!
