Historical Society Hosts Event About Famous Watertown Sculptor

The Historical Society of Watertown presents an evening about a famous Watertown sculptor led by former Sacred Heart Pastor Joseph Curran. The event is free. The Historical Society sent out the following announcement:

Presented by Father Joseph Curran Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472,  in the Local History Room – 2nd floor. Father Joseph Curran, former pastor of the Sacred Heart Church in Watertown’s East End, will give a lecture on Watertown sculptor Harriet Hosmer in the beautifully restored Local History Room of the public library. Father Curran, our foremost authority on sculptor Harriet Hosmer, will present a lecture on Harriet’s colorful life and her many works of art.

Improper Bostonian, Run by Watertown Family, Celebrates 25 Years

The Improper Bostonian magazine, which is owned by two Watertown natives – Leon and Bob Semonian, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a party in Boston. 

Nearly 300 people gathered at The Exchange in Seaport to celebrate with Wendy, her father Leon and the rest of the Improper team. Among those at the anniversary celebration were Linda Pizzuti Henry, Jenny Johnson, Billy and Meredith Starr and many more. Founded in 1991 by Mark Semonian of Newton, the locally owned family business is headquartered in the Back Bay of Boston reaches more than 550,000 readers. Leon Semonian (Mark’s father) owns the magazine, and did so with his brother Bob, who passed away a few months ago. Wendy Semonian Eppich, publisher of the magazine for the last 14 years, started as an intern at The Improper during the summer of 1991 and helped her brother release the first issue 25 years ago.

Free Family Fun Days Coming to the Arsenal Center for the Arts this Fall

The Arsenal Center for the Arts kicks off another season of Free Family Fun this fall! Artists Wanted for Newton Open Studios Fall Juried Art Fest

Newton Open Studios will host its ninth annual Fall Juried Art Fest in Nov. and artists are wanted for the show. The Fall Juried Art Fest is open to artists who live, work, volunteer, or attend art classes in Newton, or who is a member of a Newton arts organization. ARTSCOPE’s Kaveh Mojtabai (Founder and Publisher) and Brian Goslow (Managing Editor) will jury show, which will take place Nov. 5-6, 2016.

Free Showing of Documentary on at Perkins School on Blind Sailing

Perkins School for the Blind presents a free showing of the moving “Sense the Wind,” a documentary about a blind sailing competition.

Join Perkins class of ’72 alumnus Matt Chao for a FREE preview screening of Sense the Wind on Sept. 14, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Grousbeck Center. All are welcome to the audio described showing of this documentary. Highlighting ability, not disability, this documentary tell the remarkable story of Matt and three other individuals who share a unique bond — each is vision impaired and striving to race in Japan’s 2013 Blind Sailing world Championship while navigating all the other challenges in life. Following the film there will be a Q&A with the producer/director Christine Knowlton and Matt Chao.

Vegetarian Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival Coming to Watertown

Food Truck Festivals of America is pleased to announce the Vegetarian Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival, coming to The Arsenal Project in Watertown (485 Arsenal St.) on Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon-6 p.m. (VIP hour from 11 a.m.-noon). The festival will feature 15+ food trucks and 30+ of the region’s best craft beers. Food and 12oz craft beers will be available for purchase from Noon-6 PM (11 am- Noon VIP). From 3-6 p.m. unlimited beer sampling will be available for an additional fee where attendees are able to sample 2 oz. craft beers. The trucks will be serving up a variety of vegetarian favorites, including Asian fusion, salads, falafel, hummus, and other Mediterranean specialties, soft serve treats, warm hand pies, and much more.
