Salute the Veterans in an End of Summer Concert in Watertown

The Town of Watertown will host a free concert to salute veterans at Saltonstall Park. The End of Summer Concert – A Salute to our Veterans, will take place on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 5:30-8 p.m. in Saltonstall Park – outside of Town Hall. The rain location is the Watertown Free Public Library. Music by the world famous Hal McIntyre Orchestra, directed by Don Pentleton, featuring a tribute to Frank Sinatra.

Sing Along With the Hit Musical Hamilton Live on Stage in Watertown!

The Arsenal Center for the Arts presents Hamiltunes Boston at the Mosesian, a singalong experience of the hit Broadway musical, Hamilton, on Monday, Sept. 12 and Tuesday, Sept. 13 in the Charles Mosesian Theater in The Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal St., Watertown, the group announced. Sing on stage by signing up for a vocal slot and be a part of the experience! Tickets and vocal signups open on Aug.

Sicilian Theater Company’s First Production Debuts in Watertown

Trinacria Theatre Company presents its inaugural theatrical production, La Storia di Colapesce at the Watertown Sons of Italy. The production is an original piece created and devised by the company during a four-week residency in Sicily, at San Placido Calonerò in the Messina region of Sicily. The cast of La Storia di Colapesce is comprised of an ensemble of eight American theatre artists. The Trinacria Theatre Company’s mission is to use theatre as a tool to promote Sicilian history, heritage, and culture at home and abroad. Company members reimagine the Sicilian folk legend of Colapesce, the tale of a fisherman’s son from Messina who spends so much of his time diving beneath the waves that he is said to be half-man, half-fish.

3 Watertown Artists Chosen to Turn Pianos into Public Street Art in Boston

Three Watertown artists are among the 60 local artists have been selected to participate in Play Me, I’m Yours, Luke Jerram’s popular public art installation that will make a return visit to Boston this fall, courtesy of Celebrity Series of Boston, organizers announced. 

From Sept. 23 to Oct. 10, 2016, Street Pianos Boston will feature 60 pianos, decorated by these artists and placed in public outdoor spaces in every Boston neighborhood and select Cambridge locations for the public to play and enjoy.  Each piano will feature a simple invitation: “Play Me, I’m Yours.”

Artists of all backgrounds, artistic abilities and experience in different mediums were encouraged to apply through a public application process. Watertown residents, Ruth K Henry, Ryan Edwards, and Dawn Evans Scaltreto, that have been selected as artists for Street Pianos Boston. Ruth K. Henry is a Watertown resident whose art stems from her love of color, texture, music, and justice. Henry has worked on many community arts projects and was inspired when she came across Street Pianos Boston in 2013.

The Love Dogs Bring Some Swing to the Final Watertown Summer Concert

Summer is winding down, but you still have one more chance to catch a free Watertown Summer Concert. Longtime Watertown favorite, The Love Dogs will play the final Watertown Summer Concert on Thursday, Aug. 11. Now in their 20th year entertaining, The Love Dogs combine elements of jump blues, New Orleans R&B and early rock ‘n’ roll into their own sound. Lead singer Eddie “Duato” Scheer is backed by a large horns section, a Fender guitar, boogie-woogie piano and drums.

Observe native birds of prey as you learn about the behavioral and physical adaptations they use to hunt and catch their prey. Investigate the role that they play in their ecosystems. There will be two presentations!

Methodist Church Hosts 15th Annual Magic and Song on the Lawn

Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church will host the 15th Annual Magic and Song on the Lawn on Thursday, Aug. 11. The free show will be 7-8:15 p.m. at the church located at 421 Common St. in Belmont. To celebrate 15 years of Magic & Song, both children’s recording artist Wayne Potash and Paul Sedgwick, the singing banjo player will be performing along with the church’s own Mike Bent and his Abrakidabra Magic Show.
