NBC Offering Live Descriptions of Rio Olympics for the Blind

This year’s Summer Olympics will be easier for the visually impaired to enjoy as the broadcasts will be available with detailed audio descriptions of the action. 

Kim Charlson, director of the Perkins School for the Blind’s Library, sent out information about how to access the video description. The descriptions are available for Xfinity Comcast subscribers who have SAP available devices. Go to the cable Audio settings, hit SAP language and select Video Description. NBC will have the video description on its primetime coverage of the Rio Olympics. Xfinity customers will also be able view the Opening and Closing ceremonies on demand with the descriptions the day after they air.

Catch Some Classic Soul and R&B at Thursday’s Summer Concert

This week’s Watertown Summer Concert features a Cambridge band that plays classic soul, funk and R&B. 

The Chicken Slacks play on Thursday, Aug. 4, at Saltonstall Park (next to Town Hall, 149 Main St.) from 6:30-8 p.m. The band entertains every Thursday at the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge. Family Drive-In Movie Night Coming to the Arsenal Project

Celebrate summer at the Arsenal Project with a free drive-in movie on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Watch the big screen from the comfort of your own car! The movie will be “Inside Out” and the fun begins at 6:30 p.m. with free activities for kids. Food Trucks will be there too – The Bacon Truck and Frozen Hoagies. Faire on the Square is Coming Up, Find Out How to Get a Table

Watertown’s annual celebration, the Faire on the Square, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, so get your table now. 

The event features music, dancing, food, and hundreds of local businesses, non-profits and organizations. It is held in the park next to Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are options for one table, or a double size booth for double the cost. The cost for one table for arts & crafts, food, businesses, commercial vendors is $60 for town residents and groups and $70 for non-residents or groups for. For individuals, the price is $45 for residents and $55 for non-residents.
