James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. The first New Rep, New Voices Theatre Festival features three 20-minute plays that were selected out of over 150 plays during our March call for submissions. New Repertory Theatre presents the first New Rep, New Voices Theatre Festival, from May 21 through May 28 in the Black Box Theatre at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Tickets are $25 for Adults, $10 for Students and can be purchased at: https://secure.newrep.org/events
The Plays
AURORA by Ramón Esquivel
Featuring: Aliyah Harris & Lonnie Miller
The play takes place on an Autumn Night on the The Aurora Bridge in Seattle in 2010. Kai has come here to end their life, and Halen tries to stop the attempt. We learn that Halen committed suicide in the same spot two years earlier, and has reappeared to support Kai in this time of crisis. This play employs magical realism in an ultimately uplifting story about depression, grief, metaphysics, and the transcendent nature of love.

The Community Development & Planning Office is collecting feedback from individual artists to understand their workspace needs. We would like to know what sort of workspace local artists need to be successful in their chosen fields. The “Artist Workspace Survey” is completely anonymous unless artists would like to be contacted for a follow-up conversation. Survey answers will help us develop artist workspace in the city. RevelsRevels singers and the Perkins School for the Blind will put on a musical Celebration of Spring. The following information was provided by Revels:
Join us for our 21st annual springtime collaboration with the talented Perkins School community!
There are many harbingers of Spring in the Revels calendar but for us, the annual Spring concert that we perform with our friends at Perkins School for the Blind is a special favorite. Traditionally our Revels chorus pairs up with the Perkins students one-on-one and we sing and dance the season in. This year, like last, will be a virtual event, but that will not stop the dancing or the singing! We will be filming on-site at Perkins for this special Facebook Live event and we are looking forward to the amazing alchemy that always accompanies this musical collaboration. As a bonus, members of Boston’s Chorus pro Musica will be adding their voices to the celebration. Join us at home in this decades-old tradition!
Revels and Perkins School for the Blind began collaborating on springtime music programs over two decades ago, and over time, the event has blossomed into an annual tradition and one of the most memorable and rewarding events of the year for our organizations and the audiences we serve. This year’s production serves upold songs through new technology as our combined choruses present A Celebration of Spring, a joyful program of seasonal music, dance, poetry and song!
The 2022 Watertown free summer concerts series features 14 groups starting on June 1 and running through the end of August. The City of Watertown provided the following information about the concert series:
Save the dates for the 2022 Saltonstall Park Concert Series. The Concert Series is a series of free performances at Saltonstall Park, located at 149 Main Street in Watertown from 6:30-8 PM. Audience members are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. June 1: Perfect Crime Band

The Mosesian Center for the Arts. The following announcement was provided by the Mosesian Center for the Arts:
The Mosesian Center for the Arts will hold its annual fundraiser on Tuesday, May 17. “After having to cancel 2020’s benefit and stream last year’s event online, we’re thrilled to be holding the 2022 Annual Benefit & Mosesian Awards in person again,” said Executive Director Darren Farrington. Mosesian Award recipients for 2022 are Rania Matar and Dawn Evans Scaltreto. Matar is a Boston-based, Lebanese-born, award-winning photographer whose work has been widely exhibited in museums worldwide.
