LETTER: East End Resident Endorses Slate of Candidates, Votes on Charter Changes

I am a parent and committed progressive in the East End of Watertown. Here’s what I’m supporting this year, and why:

Ballot question 1: Doesn’t Matter, but I’m voting yes. This one will change the official name Watertown from “the City known as the Town of Watertown” to “the City of Watertown”, and accordingly change “town council” to “city council” etc. This one sounds cosmetic because it is. There’s no trick here, just change the designation or not. We can all just do whatever feels good.

I write this letter to enthusiastically endorse Jessica Middlebrook for the Watertown School Committee. I have known Jessica for 9 years, and throughout that time, no one has worked harder on behalf of campaigns and causes that align with her progressive values. Now, as she embarks upon her own campaign, I stand with Jessica in her efforts to lift up all voices in the Watertown school community. She will bring intelligence, empathy, and prudence to the Committee; our whole town will benefit from her leadership.

LETTER: Mother of Two Watertown Students Endorses School Committee Candidate

Greetings friends and fellow Watertownites,

I am writing this letter to enthusiastically endorse Jen Nicholson in her campaign for School Committee. I actually could not fathom a more perfect candidate for the job. Jen’s background leaves her uniquely qualified for a seat on our School Committee. She has had roles in all sides of the school system which will inform how she makes decisions for our school as a whole. The Watertown Schools are part of who Jen Nicholson is as a person.

LETTER: Watertown State Rep. Endorses Candidate for District A Councilor

I’m writing today as a parent, an East End resident, and a public servant to endorse Nicole Gardner to be our next District A Town Councilor. I encourage my fellow East Watertown residents to join me in voting for Nicole on November 2nd. Nicole Gardner has the analytical mind, vision, values, and independence necessary for the East End to prosper and flourish. We have some significant challenges ahead — housing affordability, the scale and pace of new business developments, traffic congestion, maintaining our green spaces, and ensuring that we work toward sustainability. 

As the East End grows, we need a Town Councilor with Nicole’s unique combination of business expertise, community organizing experience, and progressive values. I have seen firsthand how deeply Nicole cares about our community.

LETTER: Watertown Resident Endorses Candidate for District A Councilor

I’m writing as a Watertown resident and community leader to make a full-throated endorsement for Nicole Gardner to become our next District A Town Councilor. I encourage all progressives who live in the East End to cast their ballots for Nicole on November 2nd. Having worked closely with Nicole on the steering committee of Watertown Citizens for Peace Justice, and the Environment, I have seen her dedication to this community firsthand. Nicole has proven herself to be an open-minded and humble collaborator, taken the initiative on projects when she saw the need, and shown strong leadership. Her creativity, energy, and critical thinking will be an asset to our entire town.

Election Deadlines Approaching for Requesting Mail-In Ballot, Submitting Endorsement Letters

The ballot drop off box outside Watertown’s Town Hall. The final day to request a mail-in ballot from the Town is this week, as is the deadline for submitting an endorsement letter to run in Watertown News. Vote by Mail

The final day to submit an application to vote by mail is Wednesday, Oct. 27, according to the Watertown Town Clerk’s election calendar. The Clerk’s office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

LETTER: More Than Forty Parents Back Candidate for Councilor At-Large

We write to you today to enthusiastically endorse Daniel D’Amico for Watertown Councilor at-large. As parents of children in town, we have all worked with Dan over the years and know him as a thoughtful, entrepreneurial, and forward-thinking leader. He has volunteered his time in town, most recently serving as a community member on the WFPL Strategic Planning Committee in 2020-21. He has also spent the last 15 years coaching the children of Watertown and instilling in them the values of teamwork, fair play, and hard work and we know he would bring these skills to the Town Council if elected. Dan is a lifelong resident of Watertown and has a long history of engagement in town, yet he is committed to serving Watertown in a way that is inclusive of all views.
