New Bagel Store Opening in Watertown This Weekend, Will Soon Serve Brunch

Watertown will have a new place to grab bagels, coffee, and soon brunch when Wicked Bagel opens on School Street. The location at 68 School St., the former Porcini’s spot, will be the third for Wicked Bagel, which also has stores in Lexington and Woburn. Wicked Bagel opens for business on Saturday, June 1, and will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wicked Bagel President Maria Mahoney said customers will get a discount during the opening weekend, with 25 percent off the entire order for walk-ins on Saturday and Sunday. The Watertown store will have something that the other two locations do not offer – brunch with alcohol available.

Find Out What Zoning Can Do, Its Limitations and More During Broadcast Hosted by Watertown’s City Manager

The City of Watertown’s Zoning Map. Watertown’s City Manager worked for two decades in planning departments, and he will share his knowledge in a live presentation on Watertown Cable TV called, “Zoning: An Implementation Tool – Past, Present, and Future.” George Proakis will appear on the live show, and take questions during the event on June 3, beginning at 6 p.m. It can be viewed on Comcast Channel 9, RCN Channel 3, or online at WCATV.org. Proakis told Watertown News that the presentation will be based on the class he has taught at Harvard for many years. The City of Watertown provided the following information:

Author and Globe Columnist Speaking at Watertown Group’s Annual Meeting and Dinner

The following announcement was provided by Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice and the Environment:

Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice and the Environment will hold their annual meeting this Sunday, followed by a lecture and Q&A featuring prolific author, analyst, and Boston Globe columnist, Stephen Kinzer. On June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at First Parish of Watertown — Unitarian Universalist, 35 Church St., the group will celebrate its 45th year and discuss the year ahead with a community potluck dinner which brings together members from each of the organization’s six working groups (Watertown Faces Climate Change, Refugee Support Group, Friends of Bees and Life Friendly Garden Tour, Pigsgusset Initiative, Peace and Common Security, and Race Reels). At 6:15 the group will hold their meeting, followed by Dr. Kinzer’s address “Peace or Primacy: America’s Choice for the 21st Century.”

Senior Fellow in International & Public Affairs at Brown University’s Watson Institute, Stephen Kinzer spent 20 years as a foreign correspondent for the New York Times and has held the position of bureau chief in Nicaragua, Germany, and Turkey. He’s taught at Northwestern University and Boston University and holds two honorary doctorates. Author of numerous articles and essays, Dr. Kinzer has also authored five books, including his most recent “Poisoner in Chief: Sidney Gottlieb and the CIA Search for Mind Control.”

Watertown veterans were joined by youth sports teams, scouts, the Watertown Police officers and Firefighters, bands and more during the 2024 Memorial Day Parade. The event ended with a ceremony at Victory Field that included the unveiling of a new tribute to veterans. Following the parade, a ceremony was held at Victory Field which included the unveiling of a chair honoring prisoner of war and missing in action. The POW-MIA Chair of Honor represent those service members who are unable to fill them because of their sacrifices, as well as reminding people of the men and women who serve our country every day.
