Watertown Woman Biking 62 Miles in the RIDE to End Alzheimer

Ellen O’Connell, of Watertown, will bike 62 miles in the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter’s RIDE to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, June 24, the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter announced. Starting and finishing at Odiorne State Park in Rye, NH, the RIDE provides a 2-, 30-, 62- and 100-mile route through the towns of coastal New Hampshire and the north shore of Massachusetts. O’Connell joins the RIDE to honor her father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s over 10 years ago. The youngest of 6 children, Ellen is the captain of the team Pedaling for Parents, “I founded it with one of my dear friends whose mother also suffers from Alzheimer’s. My friend Leigh has been my support system throughout this whole ordeal.

Iconic Business Woman Yolanda Taking Part in This Year’s Relay for Life

Waltham resident and iconic Boston-area businesswoman Yolanda Cellucci will participate in Relay For Life of Watertown, Newton, Waltham this coming Saturday, the American Cancer Society announced. While she’s always supported the work of the American Cancer Society, now her motivation is a near and dear source – her daughter. Celucci’s daughter Linda Petrosian, 57, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer three years ago and has endured a “terrible” surgery that removed a mass in her throat, chemotherapy and radiation. She’s still scheduled to go through 10 months of treatment. She’s plagued with a horrible cough and sickness, but she still stays active; a strong network of friends and family have helped her get through it, Celucci said.

Final Concert of Tremedal’s 25th Anniversary Season to be Held Saturday

The last Temedal Concert of the year, celebrating 25 years of El Salvador Friendship, will be held on Saturday, May 13 First Parish Church in Watertown. The concert features Dean Stevens’ Gaggle o’Travelers, featuring Fellow Travelers: Suzie Giroux, Linda Sharar, Ed White, Sue Kranz, Meg Rayne. It will be at 8 p.m. at First Parish Church, 35 Church St., Watertown. Proceeds go to help four villages in El Salvador, and members of the group travel to the villages every six months. Stevens has an exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive singing voice, according to organizers.

Marshall Home Fund Hosting Ceremony to Award Grants to Help Older Adults

Please join the Marshall Home Fund at its annual Program Grant Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 17 – 3:30 pm at the Watertown Public Library, the group announced. The MHF will distribute a total of $68,000 to the following organizations for programs that will benefit Watertown’s older adults: Beaverbrook STEP, Care Dimensions, Lexington Chamber Music, MetroWest Community Development, Mosesian Center for Arts, New Rep Theater, Perkins School for the Blind, Project Literacy, Springwell, Watertown Council on Aging, Watertown Family Network, Watertown Health Department, Watertown Prosperity, Windsor House. Established in 2005, the Marshall Home Fund is a nonprofit, community-based charitable foundation dedicated to serving Watertown’s older adult population. MHF also provides financial assistance to elderly individuals in urgent need. These individuals must be referred to MHF by local agencies, town officials, or organizations.

Boy’s & Girl’s Club Members Featured During Annual Spring Auction

The best of the Watertown Boy’s and Girl’s Club was on display at the Annuals Spring Auction, presented by the people who know the place best – the club members. Guests at the fundraiser at the Oakley Country Club learned about activities at the club and recent improvements from youngsters who attend the club. The club has about 1,000 members and the facility on Whites Avenue attracts about 130 members a day. One member, Kat Nilov, read the essay that won her the club’s “Youth of the Year” award. She said that when she and her mother moved to Watertown from Staten Island she was in middle school and had not friends.
