Find Out Why the Helicopters Were Flying Around Watertown This Weekend

The Watertown Police have solved the mystery of the helicopters flying over town this weekend, and all signs points toward Hollywood. Helicopters buzzed over Watertown on Friday evening and Sunday morning, and at first even the Police Department could not get any explanation why they were doing it. Police, however, were able to track down where the aircraft came from by investigating the number on the tail, which led them to Norwood Airport, and they discovered it belonged to Wings Air, out of White Plains, N.Y, said Police Chief Michael Lawn. “We were finally able to track down an employee who told us that they were contracted by CBS Films to do overall air shots for the ‘Patriots Day’ movie,” Lawn said. “They stated that they filed their flight plan with FAA and also contacted Malden PD for some reason but never contacted Watertown PD.”

Police Log: Man Caught Breaking Into a Car, Adele Fan Scammed

Aug. 22, 11:10 p.m.: A resident of Laurel Street heard a noise outside and looked out to see a man looking into parked cars. The man, who was wearing a dark shirt, was seen going into the passenger side of a vehicle and appeared to be rummaging through it. The owner of the vehicle confirmed the center console was open and a small amount of money was missing.

Man Tries to Gain Entry to Elderly Woman’s Home Posing as Utility Worker

A man saying he was from the utility company tried to gain access to an elderly woman’s home in a suspected scam. A Beechwood Avenue resident reported an unknown male came to her door claiming he was from a utility company. He said that they would be shutting down the electricity in the area for three days, so he wanted to set up a generator in her back yard, according to Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. “He said he would have to have access to the interior of her house and her backyard,” O’Connor said. The woman said he also asked how her “hubby” was doing?

Woman Followed by Strange Man While Running Through Watertown

A woman reported being followed by a stranger on her run around Watertown, and he approached her two separate times, according to police. A couple driving through Coolidge Square stopped a police officer and a 35-year-old woman told the officer she was followed by a man just about 15 minutes earlier, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. “She was out on Aug. 25 about 6:30 p.m. running down Common Street toward Watertown Square,” O’Connor said. “She got the feeling she was being followed and she stopped and turned around and saw the same man stopping and starting to walk.”

Aug. 15, 9:06 a.m.: An officer patrolling in Coolidge Square spotted a driver make an illegal maneuver and police pulled the car over. While speaking with the driver, the woman gave officers what turned out to be her sister’s drivers license. When police said the owner of the license had two arrest warrants, the driver admitted it was not hers.

Police Nab Three Men for Breaking Into Watertown Gas Station

The Watertown Police identified and arrested three men in connection of a recent nighttime break in of a gas station in town. On July 25, 2016 it was reported to the Watertown Police Department that a breaking and entering had occurred during the overnight hours at 600 Main Street, AAA Auto Clinic, the WPD announced. During this break, suspects had chiseled through an exterior concrete wall, into the office, where the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash. As a result of an investigation by the Watertown Police Detective Division, arrests warrants were obtained and executed on Joseph Elwell of 26 Briarwood Lane, Marlborough, and Sabino Aviles of 81 Nichols Road Framingham, for charges related to Breaking and Entering at Nighttime, Larceny over $250, and Breaking into a Depository, according to the Watertown Police. Kevin Szydlowski of 16 Essex St., Watertown, was criminally charged and summoned to court for his role in the crime, police announced.

Watertown Police Department Welcomes Three Newest Officers

The Watertown Police Department is pleased to announce the swearing-in of three new officers into its ranks. They are Officers Sean Bowler, Michael Martino, and Christopher Hoey. The officers attended the six-month training academy at the Reading Municipal Police Academy in Reading.
