Arlington-Watertown Girls Swimming Team Splits First Two Dual Meets

Now in its second year, the Arlington-Watertown Coop girls swimming team had a successful start to the season against Woburn, and then fell short against Belmont in the second meet of the year. The team includes athletes from both Watertown and Arlington high schools. Watertown has only four swimmers on the squad, but they made some contributions. Arlington-Watertown beat Woburn 87-83 on Sept. 7 in Woburn. In the meet, sophomore Niamh Murphy was on the first place 200 medley relay which finished in 2:07.89, and she also placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.79) and fourth in the 5o0 freestyle (6:57.37).

Watertown Youth Lacrosse Invites Kids of All Ages to Play Speedball

Watertown Youth Lacrosse invites you to play Fall Speedball Lacrosse. Speedball is a non- contact game played with a soft ball. This Is a great introduction to the game for inexperienced players looking to try it out. All players are welcome, and please bring any friends that want to try lacrosse. For experienced players, it’s an excellent way to improve stick skills and off ball movement.

Watertown Summer Basketball League Champion Crowned After Winning Game 3

The Watertown Summer Basketball League finals came down to a winner-take-all game, and New Day came away with the championship trophy. The Watertown Recreation Department provided a recap of game 3 of the finals series:

In one of the most intense, well played and high scoring Papas Elite Finals in recent memory, New Day dominated Donohue’s Kaos in the rubber game to earn the 2018 Papas Elite Championship by a score of 89-67. As in game two, the three ball was again the critical factor in the final game as New Day tallied 17, while Donohue’s Kaos had 9 made three pointers. After an initial close first 10 minutes of the game, New Day took a double digit lead on the heels
of Mykel Derring’s 19 first half points, 15 by way of the three to lead at the half 43-34. Donohue’s Kaos made a strong run to begin the second half to close the gap, Seth Hauben was the leading contributor scoring a team high 24 points while Todd Billet (15) and Craig Griffin (14) also played well on the offensive end.

Watertown Boys & Girls Soccer Teams Kicking Off Season Soon

The Raiders soccer squads take the field in early September for the beginning of the 2018 season. See the boys and girls varsity schedules below. Last season, Watertown High School’s boys team won the North Section title and made it to the MIAA state semifinal. Meanwhile, the girls hope to return to the state tournament for the first time since 2015. The girls will be the first to play at Victory Field, on Sept.

Watertown Field Hockey Seeking 10th Straight State Title in 2018, See the Team’s Schedule

The Watertown High School field hockey team’s unbeaten streak ended last season, but the Raiders kept their run of state titles alive, winning their ninth straight in 2017. The quest for 10 titles in a row begins next week with a scrimmage, and Watertown opens the regular season on Sept. 6 at Reading. The first home game for Coach Eileen Donahue’s team will be against Stoneham on Sept. 14. The Raiders lost two All-Scholastic players, Jonna Kennedy, the goalie for the past three years, and Sydney Poulin.
