Watertown’s Patriot Who Fell on the First Day of the American Revolution

Two-hundred-fifty years ago was a turbulent time for Watertown. On April 19, 1775, more than 130 men from Watertown responded to the call to fight the British. They met the retreating Redcoats in what is now Arlington, exchanged fire, and one soldier from Watertown — Joseph Coolidge — was killed.

The region kicks off the weekend with a spring surge of warmth and wind as southwest flow dominates the pattern. Saturday may bring near-80°F warmth for some inland spots, followed by a cooldown Sunday behind a dry frontal passage. Next week begins quiet, though showers arrive Monday night into Tuesday with a passing low-pressure system. After that, sunshine and mild temperatures return to wrap up the week.

Exhibit of Watertown Photographer’s Work on Display in Cambridge

“Summer Street, Boston,” is one of Joseph Levendusky’s photos that will be displayed at CambridgeSeven + the Paul Dietrich Gallery.

WEEKEND FUN: Creative Chats, Easter Egg Hunt, Shakespeare, Recycling Event, Dim Sum

You can start this weekend early, with a Friday morning Creative Chat at the Mosesian with the artist Cat Bennett. She is a lifelong professional artist who has written a couple of books about how to make art creation a practice in your life. An important Earth Day event on Saturday is the DPW recycling day. It’s time to get rid of your very old tax files or equally old textiles and styrofoam you’ve been collecting. If you arrive before it runs out, there’ll be giving away Black Earth compost. Also, our town tree warden is gifting baby oak trees! A Midsummer Night’s Dream is continuing this weekend if you missed it last week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Sunday afternoon, make your kids happy at the Easter egg hunt at Grace Chapel. To complete the weekend with a special treat of a  meal, discover the Joyful Garden for a brunch of delicious dim sum.
