The possibility of building a new Middle School in Watertown moved a step closer to becoming a reality at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The Council also approved funding for projects at City parks, the library, Police Station, and for Watertown’s Treaty Day celebration.

It’s National Farmers’ Market Week, and Watertown’s own market will celebrated with special events on Thursday.
Friends of Herter Park welcomes the community to three days of FREE Shakespeare in an idyllic setting, along the Charles River in Allston, at the newly renovated Amphitheatre at Herter Park, the Friends group announced.
Sometime in the future, self-driving shuttles could be transporting people around Watertown, and that future may not be that far down the road.
The Town Council’s Ad Hoc Committee on Transportation asked Town officials to look into opportunities for grants and pilot programs to test autonomous vehicles to provide public transportation in Watertown. The town would not be the first community to test such self-driving shuttles. Las Vegas and London have started programs and Columbus, Ohio, is exploring the idea, according to this report by CNET. They can also be seen on campuses and as inter-terminal trains at airports. In October 2016, Gov. Charlie Baker signed an executive order promoting the testing and deployment of automated vehicles.
The Watertown Police and the Recreation Department will host the second Family Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 11.
Tufts Health Plan Foundation announced that Lydia Greene, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Tufts Health Plan, has joined the Foundation’s board of directors as a management representative. Greene has worked at Tufts Health Plan since 2004.
The third phase of the Arsenal Yards project will include the first of four residential buildings planned for the renovation of the Arsenal Mall.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that crews will return I-90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike) in Boston to its normal configuration of four lanes of traffic in each direction by 5 a.m., Monday, August 7, almost three weeks faster than originally scheduled as part of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Project.
