After a full & meaningful inaugural year, the SOLSTICE celebration is now positioned to be an annual Mount Auburn tradition, just a stone’s throw from Boston in Cambridge and Watertown.

Watertown Group Gets Grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mass. Foundation

The following information was provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation:

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, a nonprofit grantmaking and research organization, today announced the launch of a new grant program, Supporting Health Coverage Enrollment Efforts, that will support organizations statewide that help eligible people secure and maintain MassHealth (Medicaid) or other insurance coverage. The Foundation awarded a total of $600,000 to 10 community-based organizations located across the state, including a Watertown-based organization.

WORCESTER — Sometimes a moment leaves you grasping for words, unable to form full sentences. Several feelings flowing all at once — triumph, exhilaration, pride, a sense of relief, and pure joy. All you can do is just scream and give the nearest person a big hug. Those waves of emotions washed over the Watertown High School field hockey team Saturday night after emerging from a rollercoaster ride called the 2023 MIAA Div. 3 State Final.

Watertown High School’s field hockey team has been streaking towards the program’s 21st State Championship in 2023. A win in Saturday’s MIAA Div. 3 State Final would give the Raiders their 75th straight win, third straight title, and if they shut out Newburyport the team would extend its national record shutout streak to 42.

Our History: Thank You to Sen. Steven Tolman for Help Preserving Historical Asset

The following piece is part of a series on local history provided by the Historical Society of Watertown. The speech was written by Paul Brennan, former President and former Vice President of the Historical Society. He wrote it for a reception held to honor Senator Steve Tolman. It was published in the April 2005 Historical Society newsletter, “The Town Crier.” When Paul was President, he lived in the Fowle House for 5 years starting in 1988 and in December 2000 was named the “Town Historian” by the Town Council.

On February 15, 2005 the Historical Society of Watertown publicly acknowledged and thanked State Senator Steve Tolman for his successful efforts in obtaining funding for the restoration and preservation of the historic Edmund Fowle House.

A celebration many years in the making took place in Watertown Thursday to mark the beginning of the creation of an asset that will last for generations: the new Watertown High School.
