New Barbecue Restaurant in Watertown Holding Soft Opening

Barbecue lovers will have a new spot to visit in Watertown beginning Thursday, Oct. 28. The Don’s BBQ Restaurant will hold a soft opening starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the restaurant located at 93 School St. (the former Avenue Deli and Strip T’s location). The owner, Sebastian “The Don” DiFelice, specializes in Texas-style barbecue, and the restaurant uses only USDA Prime cuts for his briskets, pork shoulder, and pork loin ribs sourced in New England.

Watertown Youth Hockey Looking to Grow, Skating and Hockey Lessons Start Soon

Charlie BreitroseWatertown Youth Hockey players practice at the John A. Ryan Arena. Watertown Youth Hockey will soon start its popular Learn to Skate program, and coaches hope that eventually the young skaters will move on to the youth hockey teams.

Watertown Youth Hockey has been around since the early 1970s, if not longer, said Watertown Youth Hockey President Jason Tourville, who also coaches in the program. A few years ago the program shrank when multiple players moved to other programs in the area, but a new generation is coming up through the program. There are some pros and cons about being a smaller program. “The upside is the community, you get to know each other,” Tourville said.

Water Main Break Impacting Streets in East Watertown

Residents of Cottage Street and several other streets in the area have been impacted by a water main break on Saturday morning. The Department of Public Works sent out the following information shortly after 9 a.m on Oct. 23, 2021. There is a water main break at 12 Cottage Street. The water has been shut down and part of Cottage Street and all of Sawin Street, Rifle Court and Lyon Street have no water right now.

New Watertown Square Salon the Fulfills the Dream of Young Business Owner

Plush Beauty BarPlush Beauty Bar opened in a renovated space in Watertown Square in September. At just age 23, Francesca Vigliotta fulfilled her dream. She wanted to open her own salon and she was able to make it happen when she saw an open space in Watertown Square. Plush Beauty Bar held its grand opening in mid-September, and it is a family collaboration with Francesca teaming up with her sister, Jessica, who is two years older. The salon offers a variety of services, including eyelash extensions, waxing, threading, lifts and tints, spray tans, make up application, and they plan to offer more.

Thursday night, the six candidates running in contested races for District Councilor answered a variety of questions during the Candidate Forum co-hosted by Watertown News and Watertown Cable Access TV. On Nov. 2, voters will vote for their local councilor in District A (East Watertown), District B (East of Watertown Square and South of the Charles River) and District D (West Watertown). District C has only one candidate. The six hopefuls shared their views on the top issue for their district, what qualities they want in the new Town Manager, increasing street trees and funding of the Watertown Police Department.
