Watertown senior Mange Camara won the 55-meter dash and the 300 meters at the MIAA Div. 5 Meet Wednesday. BOSTON — Watertown’s Track and Field team took on the best athletes from around Massachusetts and two seniors showed they are among the best in the Bay State at the MIAA Div. 5 Indoor Track Meet. Sprinter Mange Camara took two firsts, and high jumper Abbi Peterson finished second at the Division Meet, held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center on Wednesday.
Watertown seniors Chris Iannetta, left, and Nick McDermott, and the rest of the Raiders boys basketball team, have been on a hot streak recently. The defending State Champion Watertown High School boys basketball team has hit a hot streak, piling up the wins over the past few weeks, including a buzzer beater. After a 1-3 start, the Raiders have improved to 9-7 overall (7-7 in the Middlesex League), including wins in six of the last eight contests. Watertown track star Mange Camara got his senior season off to a good start by running one of the top times in Massachusetts high school history in the 300 meters. Camara ran the 300 meter sprint in 34.44 seconds at the MSTCA Indoor Speed Classic at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston on Dec.
Watertown sprinter Mange Camara wrapped up an outstanding junior season by finishing third place at the MIAA All State Outdoor Track Meet in the 200 meters, and broke a school record that was over 50 years old. Camara came into the meet with the fifth fastest seed time. He ran the preliminary heat in 22.05 seconds. Then improved on that time in the final, 21.87 seconds, which claimed third place and was .35 seconds behind the winner, Joseph O’Brien of Shrewsbury. The time broke the 52-year-old school record of 21.92, that had been set in 1966 by Ken Ryan (a former teammate of Watertown Track Coach Larry Sullivan).
IPSWICH — Watertown High School’s boys and girls track and field teams claimed four individual titles, and the boys finished third overall at Saturday’s Eastern Div. 4 Outdoor Track Championships on Saturday. Sprinter Mange Camara continued his dominant season by winning the spring events at the meet at a sweltering Ipswich High School track. Distance runner Emily Koufos won a title of her own, and Ben Landry got two second places during the championships. They boys also finished in the top three for two relays.
Watertown High School’s athletic teams had a strong winter season, which resulted in 15 athletes named to the Middlesex League All-Stars and four named Most Valuable Player for their sport. The 2018 Winter All-Stars:

Watertown High School had not one but two coaches honored as coach of the year in their sports by the Boston Globe during the winter season. Watertown High School basketball coach Steve Harrington guided the Raiders to the school’s third State Championship, and his third as head coach. Harrington was named the Div. 3 boys basketball coach of the year by the Boston Globe. Having just completed his 24th season coaching Watertown, Harrington took the job when he was 24 years old.
