Watertown Winter Overnight Parking Ban Dates Announced

The following announcement was provided by the Town of Watertown:

Watertown Chief of Police Michael P. Lawn has announced the 2020-2021 Winter Parking Ban dates. Effective Monday November 30, 2020 and continuing to April 1, 2021 the Winter Parking Ban will be in effect and strictly enforced. The regulation reads in part; “No vehicle may remain on any public way for more than one hour between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM all days of the week.”

For residents who lack sufficient off-street parking, the Town allows for temporary parking at any municipal parking lot and other locations noted:

The police station at 552 Main Street (visitor’s parking lot only)Any public school parking lot except the Cunniff SchoolMarion Road parking lot at Victory FieldO’Connell Park, (lot at the corner of Boylston Street and Mt Auburn Street)Grove Street parking lot at Filippello Park (No parking in the spaces along the driveway)101 Morse Street – 14 spaces at the rear of the parking lot (currently being constructed, available once completed)

Please note that these locations may be used free of charge, however vehicles may only use available spaces after 7 PM and must be removed by 7 AM the following day. Vehicles must be removed from school property no later than 6 AM. Violators may be towed.

Watertown’s Winter Parking Ban Lifted Early

The winter parking ban in Watertown has been lifted a few weeks early, due to the mild weather. At Tuesday’s Town Council Meeting, Town Council President Mark Sideris requested that Town officials consider lifting the on-street parking ban due to run through the end of March because of the warm weather, which was forecast to continue. On Friday, Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn announced the suspension of enforcement of the parking ban. He released the following statement:

Police Chief Michael Lawn would like to inform you that Watertown will lift enforcement of the all night parking ban effective Saturday, March 14, 2020. The Department of Public Works, Police Department and Fire Department would like to remind motorists that keeping the streets clear allows for road repairs, street cleaning and easy access for public safety vehicles.

Police Chief Announces Temporary Suspension of Winter Parking Ban

Watertown residents will get a brief reprieve from the winter parking ban, the Watertown Police announced. Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn sent out the following announcement:

With the Holidays fast approaching, the Watertown Police Department recognizes the need for additional overnight parking to accommodate visiting family members and friends. Chief of Police Michael P. Lawn wishes to announce that effective December 22, 2019 officers will temporarily stop enforcing the All Night Parking Ban – barring any snowfall that would require plowing or sanding. Should there be a snow event please refer to the town website for available off street parking locations. Chief Lawn still encourages all homeowners to use available off street parking during the overnight hours.

First Winter Storm Due to Hit Watertown Sunday, Parking Ban Starts

A storm that will stretch from Sunday into Tuesday could drop as much as six inches of snow on the Watertown area, and make travel tough for people returning from Thanksgiving trips. At the same time, the winter parking ban begins in Watertown. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service from 11 a.m. on Sunday to 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Watertown is in the area forecast by WCVB Channel 5 to get 3-6 inches of snow, but areas of northern Massachusetts and New Hampshire could get more than a foot. The Cape, on the other hand, will get an inch or less.

Watertown’s Winter Parking Ban is Ending Early

The ban usually ends at the beginning of April, but Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn announced the early end of the overnight-parking ban on the streets of Watertown. Chief Lawn would like to inform you that Watertown has lifted its enforcement of the all night parking ban effective Saturday March 23, 2019.The Department of Public Works, Police Department and Fire Department would like to remind motorists that keeping the streets clear allows for road repairs, street cleaning and easy access for public safety vehicles.
