An institution in Watertown Square for more than three decades will close its doors this week.

Stellina Restaurant, at 47 Main St., announced that it will serve its last dinner service.

“After 34 years in Watertown, Stellina will close after Saturday August 22. Please join us for our last week,” the restaurant’s website announced.

Stellina will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, evenings only, for dine in and takeout. Reservations can be made at 978-325-6250, and takeout can be ordered at 617-924-9475.

The difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic — including the limited seating and social distance requirements — led to the closing, according to a note left on the eatery, a story on the Boston Restaurant Talk website reported.

The restaurant’s website said the restaurant has served seasonal Italian dishes for nearly 35 years”

“For over 34 years, Stellina has been a staple and pioneer of Watertown’s now-burgeoning restaurant scene. Frank and Ginnie Curcio’s cooking and hospitality, respectively, have garnered a long-time fan base that shows no sign of slowing down. Chef Marc Bouchard has been with us for 30 of these years and Michael Curcio for 10. The two continue to collaborate in new, unexpected ways: updating the menu regularly with emphasis on both freshness and season.”

  1. Stellinas has been our “go to” restaurant in Watertown for 20 years! We are so sad it is closing…. it felt like family when we walked through the doors…. always delicious food and everyone was always so welcoming to us.. ( especially Miles!) we will miss you all and the delicious food served here! We’ll be ordering take-out a couple of times this week! BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!! You were one of the BEST! Beth and John Coughlin

  2. So sorry to read that Stellina’s is closing. The best restaurant, by far, in Watertown Square and one of the top 3 in all of Watertown.

  3. Always sad to see a restaurant closing but in the 16 years I have lived within walking distance of Stellina’s, I’d frequently go back and back to it hoping to get a good meal. I never did. I wanted it to be good but it never was. Sorry.

  4. With all the difficulties that all the businesses in Watertown are having due to covid, it is very sad to see another institution folding. I wish you all the best. Many other cities are providing free parking on the main streets to help the restaurants and small businesses. Newton has free parking on Watertown St. Waltham has free parking for at least 2 hours on Moody St. Belmont covered their parking machines on the street and in the municipal parking lot to help businesses on Leonard St. Isn’t there something we can do on Main St. and Mt. Auburn St.? We used to cover the meters for the Faire on the Square. We need to do whatever we can to help our businesses before we become a business ghost town. I hope we are not relying on businesses that are supposed to be going into the ground floors of the mixed use buildings. That’s not working out so well!
