Movie Filmed in Watertown Now in Theaters & Streaming Online

The movie “Tender Bar,” which director by George Clooney used Watertown locales to shoot some of the scenes, is now showing in movie theaters and is streaming online starting Jan. 7. At least one part of town, the area near Bemis Park in West Watertown, was used in the film that stars Ben Affleck. The movie is showing at the Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge and at the Dedham Community Theater, but can also be streamed by subscribers of Amazon Prime. The film is based on a memoir by J.R. Moehringer, and the screenplay is by William Monahan, who also wrote “The Departed.”

Three Watertown Athletes Make Globe’s All-Scholastic Teams, One Named Athlete of the Year

Charlie BreirtoseWatertown sophomore Molly Driscoll was named Div. 3 field hockey athlete of the year by the Boston Globe. A trio of Watertown Raiders earned All-Scholastic honors from the Boston Globe this fall, including one who was named the athlete of the year. Only a sophomore, Molly Driscoll, was named the top Div. 3 field hockey player by the Globe in its fall All-Scholastic teams. She helped Watertown win its first State Championship since 2017.

Snow Storm: Watertown Trash Pick up Postponed, Restaurant Serving Warm Specialty Drink

A Watertown man has turned his love of Disney World into a business helping people make the most of their visit to the Magic Kingdom and other Disney parks. Jonathan de Araujo founded The Vactioneer about five years ago to help people plan their dream Disney vacations. He owns the business, and has about 90 agents around the country working with him.

Someone threw a traffic cone through a window of a store on Main Street, and Watertown Police seek information about the incident. Police believe the vandalism to Bling Boutique occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, Jan. 5. We are seeking info on a vandalism that occurred at Bling, 104 Main St. Believed to have happened during early morning hours today (1/5).

City of Watertown Seeking Farmers Market Coordinator

The City of Watertown seeks to fill a part-time, seasonal farmers market coordinator position. The City put out a job opening announcement this week. “The ideal candidate is passionate about farmers markets, the local food system, food security, and community building,” the announcement reads. The coordinator works under the direction of the Community Wellness Program Manager to assist with preseason market preparation and promotion, and would oversee the operation of the market, assist vendors, volunteers and customers. The position is also responsible for promoting the market and vendors through newsletters and social media posts.

Watertown Schools Opening Late Wednesday, Over 100 Positive COVID Tests

The Watertown Public Schools had more than 100 positive COVID-19 tests after retesting on Tuesday. Classes will start late on Wednesday. The positive tests were more than 10 times more than has been seen in the Watertown Schools, said Superintendent Dede Galdston. The arrival time for Watertown Schools are: 10 a.m. for Early Steps Preschool, 10:15 a.m. for the elementary schools, and 10:30 a.m. for the middle and high schools.
