Roadwork Project Will Impact Multiple East End Streets

A road work project that will impact multiple streets in the East End begins this week, Department of Public Works officials announced. The project includes installation of the “final asphalt wearing surface” on Edgecliff Road, Woodleigh Road, Westland Road and Templeton Parkway. According to the DPW announcement, work will begin on Wednesday, April 17, weather permitting. “The area will be closed to motor vehicle traffic during the paving process,” the announcement states. “Please park your motor vehicles out of the construction area on the intersecting side streets if necessary.”

OP-ED: Sen. Brownsberger’s Update on Proposed MBTA Bus Changes

The following piece was provided by State Sen. Will Brownsberger, who represents Watertown, Belmont and parts of Boston. The MBTA has been listening carefully to public feedback about the 47 cost-neutral bus route changes that service planners are proposing across the region. At their meeting on April 8, the MBTA’s board offered a “sense of the board” supporting 36 of the proposals. Board members deferred final approval to give themselves time to review in full detail the equity analysis for the whole package. When final approval is provided, as appears likely, the package will be the most significant set of route changes in memory.

Former Watertown Police Chief Honored for Work After Marathon Bombings

Former Watertown Police Chief Edward Deveau received an award for his work after the Boston Marathon Bombings. Here he spoke with the Town Council. Former Watertown Police Chief Edward Deveau received an award from the Heather Abbott Foundation for his work after the Boston Marathon Bombings in 2013. Deveau received the Helping Hand award at a banquet on Sunday hosted by the foundation. The award is presented “to somebody who has made a big impact on the foundation.”

The Heather Abbott Foundation helps provide customized prostheses to those who have suffered limb loss through traumatic circumstances, according to its website.

Police Log: Man Caught with Seven Arrest Warrants, Dryer Fire Causes Damage

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

April 3, 5:41 p.m.: An officer on Galen Street spotted a vehicle make an illegal left turn onto Watertown Street. When the vehicle was stopped, police found that the driver did not have a license, and had an active arrest warrant. The 30-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the charge unlicensed driving, and the warrant from Chelsea District Court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was also cited for the marked lanes violation.

Warrants Issued for Pair of Men Wanted for Stealing Wallets, Using Credit Cards

Watertown Police issued warrants for a pair of men suspected of stealing wallets from a local gym, and using the credit cards fraudulently. A man from Boston and a Malden man each face multiple charges related to using credit cards that were reported stolen from lockers at Boston Sports Club in Watertown on Jan. 4 and 5, 2019, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. “Detectives investigating the case were able to compile surveillance video,” O’Connor said. “They were able to identify two people involved.”

Forty Runners from Watertown Entering the 2019 Boston Marathon

The 123rd Boston Marathon will include 40 runners from Watertown. The number of local entrants is up one from last year. The highpoint for local runners came in 2014, the year after the Boston Marathon Bombings, when Watertown had 72 entrants.
