Two Longtime Coaches Honored by Watertown Recreation Department

Two familiar faces at the Watertown Recreation Department were honored for their long service to the youth of Watertown last week. Coaches Dick Crowley and Tom Furbush were thanked by the Recreation Department during a retirement luncheon held at the Mount Auburn Grill. Also honored at the event were former Recreation Director Tom Sullivan, current Director Peter Centola and Assistant Director Ernie Thebado. Crowley started as a playground instructor with the Recreation Department in 1958, and later worked as a summer camp coach. Furbush first coached in Watertown in 1984 in Babe Ruth baseball.

Watertown Rotary Club Celebrates its 92nd Birthday

The Rotary Club of Watertown celebrated its 92 birthday this week. Members of the service organization marked the occasion at their weekly meeting, Tuesday, which was held at the Residence Inn by Marriott on Arsenal Street, said Rotary President Lilia Weisfeldt. “We’re looking pretty good for 92, don’t cha think?!” Weisfeldt said. Police Log: Man Arrested on 2nd OUI, Teen Given Counterfeit Bills for Sneakers

Jan. 16, 1 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Galen Street spotted a vehicle in the parking lot of Vows Bridal Outlet with its engine running and with heavy damage to the front. When the officer approached, he saw a tire had been blown out and the vehicle was up on a jack. The driver was inside the car and had fallen asleep behind the wheel.

A hot real estate market in Watertown saw the top 10 agents sell more than $5 million in properties, and the top one nearly reached $20 million. According to the real estate sales in Watertown from the multiple listing service (MLS), the top agent for 2016 was Ari Koufos of Realty Executives, who sold 29 properties for $19.49 million. The data comes from MLS, and includes both home sales and rentals. Koufos said he has been the top selling agent in Watertown for more than 10 years. He entered the real estate business in 1997, and is broker and owner of the Realty Executive office in Watertown.

Watertown Singer-Songwriter Debuting her New Album This Week

After a break of about a decade away from music, a career change and two children, Watertown’s Lisa Bastoni has recorded an album and the singer-songwriter will celebrate with a performance on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in Somerville. During her break from music Bastoni had a “job in a cubicle,” went to graduate school, became an art teacher and for the past few years has been raising two young children. While she was on a hiatus from music, Bastoni said she found inspiration. “I played just a handful of concerts in all that time, and thought I was done with music for good,” Bastoni said.

Adult Mental Health First Aid Training Course Being Offered in Watertown

The Wayside Multi-Service Center will be putting on a number of upcoming mental health first aid trainings, including one in Watertown. One of the four is the Mental Health First Aid training for adults, which is offered less frequently, said Wayside Prevention Program Coordinator Stephanie Sunderland-Ramsey. The adult mental health first aid course takes place Saturday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Watertown Police Department Community Room, 552 Main St. in Watertown.

International Company Moving into Redeveloped Building on Grove Street

An international company will headquarter one of its North America divisions in Watertown. Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. will be moving into the building at 65 Grove St. The building had been occupied by GE Ionics before being gutted and renovated over the past couple years. “This new headquarters will be home to the sales, marketing, project management and executive positions.
