Victory Field Will be Open to the Public Over the Long Weekend

Watertown residents can get on the Victory Field Turf, and use other parts of the facility this weekend. The Recreation Department announced that the Victory turf field will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In addition, the lights at the Casey Park courts will be on until 8 p.m., weather permitting. You can play hockey, basketball and tennis. The Recreation Department also asks residents to fill out a customer satisfaction survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/watrecbasic. That will help the Rec Department offer better programing and facility options for residents.

Last Minute Field Goal Lifts Watertown Over Belmont on Thanksgiving

Watertown’s 24-22 win over Belmont wasn’t pretty, but a Thanksgiving Day win is always satisfying. 

The Raiders (7-4) let an 11 point second half lead slip away, and seemed like they were heading for defeat at their hands of their archrivals after Watertown failed to convert on fourth down and Belmont (4-7) began running out the clock. Watertown finally stopped the Marauders and got the ball back at its own 19 with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter. broadstreet.zone(17399);

Junior quarterback Deon Smith drove the Raiders to the Belmont 18. Along the way avoiding turnovers twice – first falling on his own fumble and then a Belmont defender dropped an interception in the end zone. On came Watertown kicker Conor Kennelly with 18 seconds left. He split the uprights and had plenty of length to spare.

Watertown Takes on an Improved Belmont on Thanksgiving – Follow it Live!

Watertown has dominated the annual Thanksgiving Game with Belmont recently, winning the last three years, but the Marauders could be a more challenging opponent this year. Last year, the Raiders thrashed Belmont 34-13 on their home turf. Watertown finished an impressive 9-2, while the Marauders finished just 3-8. The 2015 edition of the rivalry (Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at Watertown’s Victory Field) features a Watertown team that comes in 6-4, while Belmont has gone 4-6 this year. The Raiders’ record includes two playoff wins, while the Marauders collected a couple wins in the non-playoff rounds.

Your Tax Bill May be going DOWN; Some Councilors Wanted a Bigger Drop

Watertown Town HallMany Watertown property owners will have some good news when they receive their tax bills – their taxes are going down! Tuesday night, the Town Council voted to adopt the recommended rates, which will have a tax rate of 13.68 per $1,000 of assessed value (see your assessed value here). That increase the average tax bill by 4.35 percent or $236. The rates, however, differ significantly depending on type of property, Watertown Assessor Francis Golden said in his Fiscal Year 2016 tax classification presentation. LETTER: Resident Feels Council is Moving Too Fast With New RMUD Zoning

The Town Council meeting on Dec. 1 about rezoning the malls should start with singing Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” Here’s why. The proposal to rezone a large part of the Arsenal St. corridor, including both malls, to a Regional Mixed Use District (RMUD) is big, complex, hard to understand and will have a huge impact on Watertown. It would allow the Planning Board to give permits at the Arsenal Mall (let alone the rest of the new zone) for almost 3 million square feet, with buildings as tall as the Board will allow.
